Solitary confinement should be abolished as cruel and unusual punishment pursuant to the 8th Amendment. There are other ways to enforce prison discipline or protect inmates from harm.

Bill Russell called out racism and spoke truth to power, much as Ali and Jim Brown and Arthur Ashe, and Tommie Smith and John Carlos and others, but he did he did it with a dignity and grace that was transcending. It’s yet another sad day for the US as we sink into the abyss.
