@mythsbaby The clearest erasure of Metis in the source itself is probably Apollo’s defense of Orestes in the Eumenides, which includes a reference to Athena as “daughter who never fed and grew in the darkness of a womb, a seedling that no goddess could bring forth.”

Just got the video from my lecture as part of the College Scholars program at JCCC. This talk is an overview of my book "Virtuosity in the Age of Electronic media: Music, Labor, and Skill," which just went under contract with Palgrave! youtube.com/watch?v=mY1oQC…

My department is hiring! We’re looking for an interdisciplinary scholar-teacher with wide-ranging teaching interests to join us. JCCC is a great place to work, and I’m happy to answer questions via dm! careers.jccc.edu/en-us/job/4952…. If

@medievaliste Unfortunately, I think they also have to consider how much debt they’ve accrued prior to the PhD. If they’re already deep in debt, then even a fully-funded program may not be adequate.

@emmyru91 I think writing (and a whole lot else) is rough for just about everybody after finishing. It’s no model to follow, but a sense of desperation drove me to publish pretty quickly post-diss. It took several years to find a more healthy attitude toward scholarship.

@christa_a_b Love it! We will be glad to have you even closer to KC.

@rsl318 All the KU fans I work with are so anxious, and I’m like: yeah should be fun!

Another chapter of the "Oxford Handbook of the Phenomenology of Music Cultures" is prepublished online. This one by Martin Daughtry is a phneomenology of earworms aka "involuntary musical imagery". Enjoy the read!

@rsl318 I have 1000 thoughts on this, so feel free to dm if you want to chat more. As somebody with a music PhD I have had to work super hard to find a place outside schools of music. Even when my research and teaching has clearly gone beyond music, I seemed too specialized to some.

@medievaliste According to several people, the best talk they ever heard had moments that clearly connected to interests of the committee members, but it didn’t come off as pandering. I could never thread that needle, so I didn’t do it, but it was some non-obvious advice.
