AI safety money will try to change American AI policy for the better. But channelled through today's ecosystem, it doubles down on one coalition's political bet and overexposes the cause to fierce backlash. To get this right, we need an AI safety PAC in every backyard.

It was a privilege to join fellow leaders at the @ASPI_org Conference in June to discuss regional security challenges. Effective deterrence and resilience require strong partnerships, shared understanding and collaboration across government, industry and academia. #ASPIDefCon26

If u read one news piece this week, read this superb diagnosis & set of recs on AI by @JimVandeHei. It's one commonsense idea after another. Allies like 🇦🇺 would be better placed to join & support the 🇺🇸 lead if it were articulated in this structured way. wsj.com/tech/ai/ai-doo…

This has sat for a while in the "obviously likely to be true but not very well documented" basket. So it's good to see reputable journos covering it credibly like Stephen Lee Myers & @dnvolz in the @nytimes. nytimes.com/2026/07/09/bus…

In AI 2027, we predicted that AI would take over the world or irreversibly concentrate power. In AI 2040: Plan A, we've laid out our positive vision for what should happen instead.

I wrote a summary of the new Bill that would require Australia to advocate for certain issues in trade negotiations, prohibit certain outcomes, and create new transparency requirements (subject to a narrow scope...)

New Bill in Australia will reform how FTAs and BITs are negotiated. Some interesting design choices, including scope, and it prohibits signing agreements that have ISDS (among other things)

You don't have to choose between "AI is fake hype" and "Superintelligence is inevitable, lie down and accept it." There's a third option: humans deciding, through their governments, that machines smarter than us don't get built, and we stay in control of our future.
ControlAI@ControlAI

Half of Americans fear AI could end humanity. Most feel powerless to do anything about it. But you're not powerless. Thousands of people have already used our tools to send messages to their lawmakers. Ashley Embers’ new video explains what's at stake and what you can do.

And I might add i have read a d reread the Illiad and the Odyssey more times than I can count. It is possible to find any meaning it it you wish. Movies are just movies. Not literature or an accurate portrayal of a book be it historical or not.
Ian Hanke@IanHanke

@clairlemon I do not understand the vast number of words written in angst or praise abt a fictional account of a mythological story with a few roots in fact. It is a movie to entertain and earn money. Nothing more or less. And where was the outcry abt that rather awful movie 300 Spartans?

Tom & Dominic are global treasures for the way they bring history to audiences who might not otherwise get to it. Seriously, people banging on about some encoded politics of a damned film need to stop trying to mess with everyone else’s heads. It’s either a good film or it’s not.
Tom Holland@holland_tom

Very happy to say it again. The Odyssey is an amazing film, and missing out on seeing it because you think it’s woke or whatever is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Your loss.
