"In the past year, natural gas prices have risen more than twice as much as wages. Electricity bills have also run well ahead of overall inflation." But clean energy from solar is now cheaper than fossil fuels, which can bring us vital cost savings. bloomberg.com/graphics/2026-…

Florida's future is electric: New report from AECOM shares the cost savings, operating efficiency, worker safety, and global competitiveness benefits that Florida's ports would gain through electrification. Our economy can become even more dominant. workboat.com/passenger-vess…

@ENERGY Lots of opportunity for these innovative technologies to improve our transmission system. Hoping this program pairs well with Order 1920 call for transmission providers to evaluate ATTs as a cost-effective tool for regional transmission planning.

Our electric bills are expected to keep increasing, as more people face challenges in affording the cost of living. Contributing factors: New datacenters spiking demand for gas power, rising costs of gas plants, LNG exports, gas price volatility. cnbc.com/amp/2026/02/12…

Florida's ports help drive the world's 15th largest economy. They're also a gateway to expand our global influence. By electrifying our ports, Florida can meet burgeoning cruise and cargo demand with greater efficiency - making it even more attractive. transportationtodaynews.com/news/37237-rep…

Florida's seaports already power a sizable chunk of our state's economy, but they still have a ton of untapped economic potential - by switching their operations to electric power. This new report from my EDF and AECOM colleagues explains it all: edf.org/media/powering…

Clean energy isn't partisan. Solar power has broad support among conservatives in America. With low cost and a fast deployment timeline, it's an immediate solution to our energy challenges today. More evidence of what @CCE_Florida revealed last year! semafor.com/article/02/19/…

Congress voted to take away a tool that helps US households save on electric bills. It passed HR 4758, which ditches the HEAR program. HEAR cuts the price for efficient appliances. Congress is leaving Americans high and dry while electric bills go up. subscriber.politicopro.com/article/eenews…

Lawmakers in #tallahassee pledged to lower Floridians' cost of living. But the "net-zero" ban in HB 1217 and SPB 7046 would instead *raise* costs. It prevents local government actions that cut expenses for housing and services. Just more red tape. eenews.net/articles/flori…

Take note: Florida legislators have proposed to ban local governments from making decisions that have the *effect* of reducing harmful air pollution. Even when the *purpose* of such decisions is to provide long-term cost savings for local residents. (See SB 1628 and HB 1217.)

HR 4758 and HR 5184 are both up in Congress. Both have unfortunate consequences. One would axe a program that helps low-income Americans to buy more efficient appliances that lower their power bills. The other would keep power bills high for struggling mobile home owners.

Because Florida depends heavily on natural gas for electricity, customers feel deeper sticker shock when gas prices swing. Prices spiked in 2022, and Floridians saw massive jumps in their electric bills the next year. More stable energy resources are key to affordable power.

Florida's Public Service Commission is one to watch, given recent rate increases it approved. The high rate of profit it allows has been a key issue. Observers might consider whether the PSC appropriately balances a good business climate with consumer affordability.

Most Americans don't know much about public utility commissions. But most of us get electricity from for-profit power companies. Which means the commission in your state dictates how much you pay. harpers.org/archive/2026/0…

Florida residents risk paying $21 billion *more* on their electric bills through 2034, if we maintain reliance on natural gas as planned. Florida needs to reduce exposure to rising gas prices. That strategy should include investing in low-cost solar energy. No fuel, stable price.

@RepMoniqueM Agreed we need energy diversification to reduce reliance on natural gas, which has economic risks that EDF has reported on. However, let's keep solar as part of the strategy. It's cheaper than you think (20-28% less than new gas plants) and will be 28% of electricity by 2034.

Congress is considering several bills that will make energy less affordable, despite evidence that rising energy costs are adding to Americans' financial strain. Owners of manufactured homes, and lower-income households, would lose the most. appliance-standards.org/document/house…

LNG exports are coming for your wallet - if US policymakers don't take steps to protect consumers from natural gas price increases due to increased competition from abroad. Failure to act could mean significantly higher energy costs for Americans. insideclimatenews.org/news/17122025/…

When you place corporate profits over public health, everyone loses. And it's not just health. By rolling back these standards, we give up on building best-in-class transportation that helps Americans and our economy to thrive in the future. reuters.com/sustainability…
