I am recruiting a postdoc to study the neurobiology of addiction! Looking for someone who would be excited to lead current projects in the lab and develop new directions in related areas. More info: bearlab.science/opportunities/

Question for my fellow task #fMRI folks: A frequent assumption I see (including in my own work) is that regions that are the most 'activated' in a contrast will also show the largest associations with individual differences. Is there any empirical work showing this is the case?

Remember back in 2022, when we didn't need to worry about a 2nd Trump Presidency, but were concerned about how many participants it would take to map links between personality & brain activity? (cf work by @smarek0502 & @ndosenbach) We have good news 👇 nature.com/articles/s4200…

I've gotten multiple questions about how to visualize white matter tracts with the ABCD, but I don't think there's an easy way. Is it time for a ggsegAtlasTrack?

@sha_zhiqiang Oh nice. The online manual seems to be all about processing the data and making the tracts. Not clear how the visualization would work, but good to know the tools are buried in there!

@sha_zhiqiang Haven't used it yet! Does DSI make it easy to visualize results (e.g., from regressions)?

Spin tests and such are great if you're comparing brain maps of distributions (mean/variance/etc). But if the maps are from regressions - use permutations!! Better error control, and can be applied to any measure type (volume, connectivity, white matter), not just the surface.

@seconds_0 @netflix the main issues I see (without even considering the reanalyses that fail to find the effect) is that 1) it depicts a girl but they only find the effect in boys, and 2) the 13RW show method is cutting wrists which is almost never lethal and the reported "increase" is by hanging
