If Real Madrid want to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in time for him to play in the group stages of the Club World Cup this summer, they would need to negotiate a deal with Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool contract runs out on 30 June. Real Madrid’s opening CWC game is against Al-Hilal on 18 June. FIFA is allowing national associations of CWC-participating clubs to open a special transfer window between 1-10 June to sign players. Clubs can also add a maximum of two players to their squad during an in-tournament window between 27 June and 3 July. Liverpool’s final game of the season is against Crystal Palace on 25 May when they are likely to be crowned Premier League champions. Alexander-Arnold could also feature for England against Andorra on 7 June and v Senegal on 10 June. There would be lots of interest if Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to sign a short-term contract to play in the new CWC. At 40, he is unlikely to be able to play in the next CWC in 2029. His great rival Lionel Messi is playing in this CWC for Inter Miami.
