The Arizona Crater, also known as Meteor Crater or Barringer Crater, is located in northern Arizona, USA. It was formed approximately 50,000 years ago when a meteorite, estimated to have been about 50 meters (164 feet) in diameter, collided with the Earth at a speed of around 40,000 miles per hour. The impact released an enormous amount of energy, excavating a crater nearly 1.2 kilometres (0.75 miles) in diameter and about 170 meters (560 feet) deep.
