In The Weight of Air, @Davidthekick tells the true story of his double life fueled by depression and #addiction. David shines a bright light on the #recovery programs that failed him—and on the treatment that helped him thrive.

@Factschaser @user14201 @BobbyDigi20 @thedailybeast @MichaelDalynyc There is a book by @davidthekick about his experiences and about how to address drug use in general. Starting with the idea that people often use drugs for the kind of reasons you describe.
English

@emmalumi_xo Wow! What an honor to be in the same stack as Iceberg Slim & Bukowski. How are you liking The Weight of Air?

Anyone else, who normally doesn’t read much, start reading books this January?
My reading appetite has increased by 200% this winter. Finally, my embarrassingly tall book pile of “I’ll read this one day” is beginning to shrink!

@clngoutdacloset The difference between heroin & alcohol is: one is much deadlier, can shut down every organ (all other substances combined, can’t) and is so addictive it can kill you in withdrawal. The other is heroin.
English

@davidthekick I just want someone to explain to me why there isn’t a heroine store next to the alcohol store.. what’s the difference..#changestigma

@DanielGarrettHR @hazldnbettyford Days, not weeks. I felt it at the start of day 2 but it could have been psychosomatic as I was terrified of withdrawal and had no idea of when or if I’d get more Bupe
English

Psych ward switched ALL my meds; withheld Bupe for days & cut dose; added Effexor (making me feel crazy); released me to @hazldnbettyford prog bc of my history but this is about depression, not drugs (like that book—the something of air?)
I was/am ravenous to be loved up at home

@davidthekick I thought for a moment that I began to feel sorry for the treatment team ending up on the business end of your pen, but I don’t; it was just gas.

@ProjectAlbertus My eyes are wide the fuck open to the same kind of major, objective problems I found in drug treatment so, yeah—let’s make some noise!
English

@davidthekick Honestly… everyday I learn more and more and it scares me. David - so glad you are out and ok. Let’s take this fight to the Hill and see if they can help on the policy side of the House.
English

@granola_lesbian Shit. So sorry to hear that. I’m noticing some serious problems w outpatient care programs; thought I’d enroll in one but am now leaning heavily toward more personalized care with trusted psychiatrists. Are you ok now?
English

@davidthekick Following to learn from you. I worked in a mental health facility for youth (age 6-18) after college. Broke my heart. I didn’t last long because of my anger & disgust w/ the program. Then I personally went to an outpatient treatment for 3 weeks - felt just as horrible there.
English

@sarah_ziggy Thanks. I’m so happy to hear (read) all of that. Please share my email address with anyone who wants to contact me (if possible, pls ask them to put something in the subject line about you or the program so it’s more visible).
English

@deedeestoutHRR The experience traumatized me to the point where I’d hesitate to be admitted to a hospital for a physical malady.
English

@davidthekick And no doubt your stories will make our collective hairs stand! But sure sorry you had to go thru all that just for some good stories. Enough of that “research” huh? 🙏
English

@DaviddeLangeOI I spent a portion of one day in a straightjacket. Does that count?
