After countless hours of research on $POET together with @Polvah, we decided to go long at $5.20 last month. Safe to say, our adds are now up 209%. Crazy part is, we do feel like this is just the BEGINNING. > But let's talk about WHY we picked up $POET as a swing idea? First off let's talk about what $POET does? > Develops high-speed optical engines, light source products, and photonic integration solutions for AI systems and hyperscale data centers. > Their Optical Interposer platform is designed to integrate electronic and photonic devices into a single chip/package, targeting 800G, 1.6T, and higher-speed AI/data-center connectivity markets. Why is this important to know? Well, I think from the earnings of $INTC and $NVDA plus price action shown from photonics stocks like $AAOI, it's clear that we're in the golden age of AI infrastructure. Not convinced? Let's hear what the CEOs from several tech companies have to say: Celestial AI CEO David Lazovsky said: > $POET Light Engines provide “precision optical power sources” for its Orion AI accelerator products. Celestial is now owned by $MRVL, so $POET historical Celestial relationship matters even more. $MRVL said the next AI data-center inflection point is moving optics inside the rack, inside the system, and even inside the package. $MRVL CEO Matt Murphy said: > AI systems are scaling in size and complexity, and customers need innovative connectivity solutions. This exactly validates what $POET is targeting: optical highway interconnects for AI scale-up connectivity. $NVDA CEO Jensen Huang said: > Nvidia and $COHR announced a multiyear optics partnership, saying Nvidia is pushing silicon photonics to enable AI infrastructure at massive scale, speed, and energy efficiency. Now there's nothing directly connected to $POET from this statement but Jensen Huang basically just confirmed that optics/photonics supply are CRITICAL for next-gen AI data centers. And that is indirectly related to $POET which could help with the pricing re-rate. $GFS CEO Tim Breen said: > Moving information with greater speed, precision, and power efficiency is now fundamental to AI data centers and telecom networks. This is another CEO confirming that data movement efficiency is becoming a core AI infrastructure problem. And what does $POET do? Optics highway interconnectivity for efficient/fast data movement! $AVGO CEO Hock Tan said: > Silicon photonics can create better, more efficient, lower-power interconnects, though he cautioned the industry is not fully there yet. There are many other statements from other CEOs but you guys get the point now. $POET is a data-movement bottleneck play. They have two products that helps with data movement; STARLIGHT: A packaged light-source solution for AI applications, developed with Celestial AI, and that each AI photonic chip needs one or more light sources integrated into the device fabric. BLAZAR: An external light source designed to power co-packaged optics and high-bandwidth chip-to-chip light-based communication links. This makes AI connectivity more affordable by reducing cost and improving scale/manufacturing efficiency. So... $NVDA is investing billions into optics, $MRVL bought Celestial AI for optical scale-up interconnect, $AVGO says silicon photonics can create lower-power interconnects, $GFS says speed + power efficiency are now fundamental to AI data centers. And since light powers optical interconnects, $POET Starlight & Blazar light-source products becomes interesting and a point of contact to be a part of a huge potential up-scale in market cap. To simply put it; $POET is not the brain of the AI infrastructure. The GPUs/CPUs are the brain. $POET works similar to the nerves in our body: the optical communication layer that helps the brain send signals faster, farther, and with less energy. It's trying to be the potential supplier for a smoother AI nervous system because the brain is useless if signals cannot move fast enough. It also does help with investor's confidence that $POET CFO Thomas Mika recently reported that they has a purchase order linked to $MRVL and intends to ship against it, with some deliveries expected as soon as next quarter. They're also waiting to hear back from Foxconn and Luxshare. Remember how I mentioned above that $MRVL owned Celestial and $POET has had a Celestial AI supply/development relationship since 2022? So there's definitely some connection there. Even with all these bullish confirmation/narrative, I am also a realist; $POET is still closer to a commercialization-stage photonics/AI infrastructure story than a mature DCF company. That means the valuation is extremely sensitive to revenue ramp, customer conversion, gross margin, dilution, terminal multiple and market hype. They received a $5M+ production order for their Infinity optical engines. That is the key proof-of-commercialization anchor, but it is still small relative to the current market cap of $2.31B. Right now, the biggest upside breaker is customer adoption. If $POET converts the $5M+ order into large recurring production orders with hyperscale-linked customers, revenue could scale far faster than the current valuation model. The biggest downside is execution risk. $POET itself lists limited operating history, financing needs, semiconductor competition, R&D risk, manufacturing/development risk, stock volatility, geopolitical exposure, and DILUTION RISK as material risks. Another company that's in AI infrastructure is $AAOI. According to them, demand for AI optical transceivers is already outstripping supply through mid-2027, with management saying they have almost two years of customer loading forecasts. That implies the optical bottleneck is not a one-quarter hype cycle and it could potentially stretches into late 2027 / early 2028. $AAOI is telling the market the AI optical layer is supply-constrained, not demand-constrained. That matters for $POET because $POET is also targeting the AI optical interconnect layer and that could help with the customer adoption and also it supports the broader thesis that the bottlenecks aren't just in GPUs but also data movement. In short, $POET can absolutely be a high-beta asymmetric AI photonics play, but at $16.00? That's not fundamentally sound for now with dilution risk as well. But remember how I said that the stock price is not the same as stock value? This is exactly what is happening now. The stock price right now isn't reflected by the company fundamentals but market buying into the narrative of the company's potential future. As hype continues to run the market narrative, there is no stopping price from going further. Their upcoming earnings in May will be a big deal, to see if this company is able to integrate into the AI rush. If the numbers and guidance are good, there's no stopping this from going to $25/30 and more.
