It would also put the spotlight on how important it is to have access to a internet capable device and internet service. Having internet access is a vital service that enables us to stay in touch.

#cm316 + #316exam This is difficult to gauge because we are still in the middle of the pandemic and it keeps changing. I would like to put a focus on how NYC was able to initiate remote learning for its 1 million+ kids.

#cm316 This course introduced me to some wonderful new movies, including M by Fritz Lang, Illusions by Julie Dash, and Ikiru by Akira Kurosawa. It sparked an interest in learning more about films made in different eras and countries.

@colonfrank91 This one of my favorite movies. I read in one of the class readings that Cuarón wanted to have it set in the future but still be relatable. I thought that the movie conveyed a dying planet (remnants of war, a dull grey landscape) perfectly.

My favorite film this semester was the one we began with: Fritz Lang's "M". It was suspenseful and at the end I found myself questioning what my reaction would be if I was part of the kangaroo court. Does exacting revenge on killers like Beckert reduce us to his level? #cm316

#cm316 The end sequence also "feels" as if it is a documentary: it is almost paparazzi like as the camera is almost hidden and catching Sabzian from behind cars across the street. #closeup

#cm316 Another scene that stuck with me was when Sabzian and Kiarostami are speaking in the prison; it feels very much like a documentary. We can hear other voices speaking, as would happen in a documentary. The sounds of life are taking place all around the 2. #closeup

#cm316 I have recently watched Close-Up & a scene that stuck with me the journalist was talking offhandedly about the violence that permeated his old neighborhood. It was so done in such a matter of fact way and I appreciated the flow of conversation in the film.

@DaryllEsposito Hi Daryl, This scene says so many things all at once: "don't expect me to do anything about it because it doesn't affect me". He is telling her that he doesn't care because his privilege allows him to maintain his position.

#cm316 I though this was a terrific scene with all kinds of connotations attached to it. The quick look of panic as Esther "outs" Mignon and the reassurance that her secret is safe. Even though she has created an illusion there are those who can see through it.

#cm316 This is really a 2-for-1 because I think Cuarón ranks as one of the most influential directors of the 21st century.

#cm316 Children of Men ranks at #13 on the BBC greatest films list but I think it may rank even higher. The story of an Earth scorched by war, human suffering and a bleak landscape are striking and profound.

@RobbinMarx I also used these films for a comparison but did not think of the age aspect. Great catch!

#cm316 I thought there was a similarity between these characters in that they were all lost in some way and found each other. Each character also had a sense of sadness about them and was yearning for something they had lost or was eager to find.

@awestley_ Hi Arianna, I'm also planning on researching more about M. The film definitely has a profound effect on audiences with its carefully placed scenes; such as the one you picked, where the audience knows the fate of the child and the mother doesn't. Good luck with the paper!

Doing my final project for #cm316 on montages & the difference between Fritz Lang's M and Vera Cheytilova's Daisies. It's such a versatile and powerful tool that can evoke such drastically different responses. This is from the beginning of the most notable montage in M.

#cm316 I chose a quote from a research paper that takes a psychoanalytical look at Fritz Lang's M. I plan on researching how much of an impact the film has had on the serial killer genre.

#cm316 For my topic, I would like to explore how Fritz Lang's M helped pave the way for the modern day police procedural.
