When technology makes something cheaper and easier, people don’t use less of it — they use way more. That’s what happened with software, and it’s happening again with AI. AI makes it cheap to write copy, build features, run campaigns, and explore ideas that used to be too expensive or slow. So instead of doing fewer projects, companies will do many more. When everyone can produce more, design becomes the difference. Clear thinking, good taste, and well-designed experiences are what turn all that AI output into something people actually want. AI multiplies work. Design decides what’s worth shipping.

2027 (prediction): AI runs workflows with people in the loop. Teams of AIs need clarity, trust, and good design.

2024: chat AI. 2025: thinking AI, vibe coding, visual design. 2026: AI that acts. 2027: AI workflows. 2042: new computing layer. Who designs it — and why?
