@brandonousley @JohnnyBoyLives I actually love the covers. I understand why there are some who prefer the originals but these are good too. Tamar does have the tendency to over sing so I get that. But this album is easily one of the better releases of the year.

If there's a cavet, he should've ditched the covers of New Birth's "Wildflower," Gladys Knight & the Pips' "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)," and Donny Hathaway's version of "Giving Up." While they're serviceable covers that tie into Beautiful Pain's retro-fitted '70s soul ambiance, much of the original material works well on its own.

I hate to admit it: Tyrese just released the best music of his career with his new album, Beautiful Pain. If you miss when R&B relied on a more organic sound with a myriad of '70s soul influences and live instrumentation, this is right up your alley.
