Proud of this group of young men! I had been on them about their defense & rebounding so they went ahead and held their pro 16 opponent to 23 points & pulled down 29 rebounds to move to 15-5 on the year.

JJ Redick on what they need to improve on: "(Luka is) a guy that can dribble, pass and shoot. I think because of injuries there were times that we didn't have enough of that. We gotta be better being able to dribble, pass and shoot. I know that sounds simple but that's just the reality"

Agreed, lot of talent being misled. As a college coach we recruited mostly alpha dogs. All leading scorers that aren’t used to sharing the spotlight with anyone on their HS teams. So our job was to get those “get mine” players to buy into team basketball. I think that’s the benefit of AAU…a lot of times it’s the first time players have played with other players as good as them. With good coaching, those players are learning that lesson early, rather than too late in college. And if they aren’t learning that lesson due to poor coaching, then find a different AAU program. Lot of good ones out there teaching the right way. Just gotta do the research to find them

I wish there was a better way to combat the “get mine” mindset in AAU basketball. Scoring matters, but at the next level, everybody can score. Attitude. Effort. Defense. Decision making. Winning habits. Those are the things that translate. So much talent being mislead!
