@Ddoomsuper92669 @joshnaa2gez The trinity is a clumsy relic of pagans adopting a monotheism. Anyone at the time of the first temple would have risked execution for the things you are saying.

@Ddoomsuper92669 @joshnaa2gez Yes. So you still have people making babies and they still go to school but when it comes to things people used to have to rely on a priest class we have a close bond with God. Paul is using language to exalt himself when the idea is we are like children, brothers and sisters.

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez Based on what I've read, the focus of that seems to be less on the "they shall teach no more" and more so on the "'Know the LORD'" quote, which seems to mean a certain kind of teaching rather than all teaching.

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez Is that of the Trinity, which is the distinct person's united in one divine essence. United yet distinct. There were many viewpoints on who God is, but many either denied Christ's divinity, downplayed it as lesser, or removed all distinctions.

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez God. Now, these facts are why there is so much debate about the nature of God, and why the early Church, and clearly into today, are constantly grappling with it. It was the opinion of the early Church, and majority of Christians today, that the model that best fits the evindence

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez But as I stated before, that if what Jesus said was literal, that would ALSO apply to your biological father. And it can't be that he only meant teachers because teachers is a different category in that passage.

@Ddoomsuper92669 @joshnaa2gez And it attempts to do so by following very few of Gods rules and teaching very strange ideas God has expressed great contempt for.

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez Exactly, Paul likewise was not attempting to usurp God's authority or title, as he says he is a father IN Christ, like we are brothers and sisters in Christ. We should ultimately submit to and seek God, but to try and do so without any help?

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez But what about instructors as later in the passage, we can't call people teachers? My point is that I think the point of Jesus saying that is that God is THE Father and Jesus is THE instructor.

@Ddoomsuper92669 @joshnaa2gez Yes I’m sure it boils down to a dumb word game and not using your knowledge to place yourself between others and God with a title he reserves for himself.

@Ddoomsuper92669 @joshnaa2gez Paul isn’t trying to be called my biological father here. He’s trying to take on some role that someone already occupies. God is my father.

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez Honestly? I don't think so because of his history persecuting the church. The verse in galations I think is most obvious of that.

@PurdToaster @joshnaa2gez For your first point, I think it's clear that Jesus is speaking g with hyperbole, as that would mean that you could not call your dad father, or instructors instructors in the verse after. For your second point, I don't see how Pual is swearing by God, he is simply calling God a

@ZachCrandall @ion_eyes The Old Testament faithful, so the likelihood of them messing up within 1 generation they screwed up is astronomically low. Which means either John got it wrong or Joseph Smith did, because the two versions are theologically different and oppose one another.

@ZachCrandall @ion_eyes What I mean is this, there is zero evidence of supporting Joseph Smith's interpretation, the version that is usually translated "the Word was with God and the Word was God" is attested to as early as 150 AD and latest 250 AD. And this is the same community that kept

No manuscript in existence supports Joseph Smith's "translation" Modern LDS apologists try to claim the JST is akin to a Bible commentary But Smith & his contemporaries believed this was part of the "restoration" of the "plain & precious truths" that were removed from the Bible

John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Joseph Smith’s Translation of the Bible – “In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God.” @MikeWingerii: "This is 'damn you straight to hell' theology!"
