Aujourd’hui, au Conseil des Affaires étrangères européen : l’Europe doit décider de la suspension de l’accord UE–Israël. Elle doit choisir ses valeurs plutôt que le silence. Un accord fondé sur le respect des droits humains ne peut pas survivre quand ses principes sont ainsi bafoués. Fermer les yeux aujourd’hui sur les atrocités au Liban et à Gaza, c’est affaiblir durablement la crédibilité européenne

Settlement expansion, settler violence at unprecedented levels, the adoption of death penalty legislation. Belgium has been calling for months for at least a partial suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. The attacks on the values that underpin that agreement are now too serious to ignore. Met alle nodige cijfergegevens, nuances en voorbehouden. Een hele namiddag lang. 54 bladzijden uitgeschreven verslag. Maar zo'n passage in het parlement, dat telt blijkbaar niet. Om 7u maakt onze openbare omroep eindelijk even plaats voor Generaal Phaleg, de baas van de DGMR aankoopdienst en National Armaments Director van de Belgische krijgsmacht. Gisteren mocht hij niet reageren, ondanks herhaald aandringen. Alle goedkope beschuldigingen en insinuaties in de PANO reportage zouden wel eens te snel doorprikt kunnen worden door de expert terzake. De plenaire moest toch nog genoeg showgehalte hebben, nietwaar. Wat een slechte journalistiek. Er blijft van al die beschuldigingen en insinuaties trouwens niets heel. Niets.

Reactie van Defensie op de PANO reportage is vernietigend. Intussen is de hele storm gaan liggen en gaat het enkel nog over het doorsturen van een filmpje post factum. Alle verwijten van te duur, te laat, illegaal, vriendjespolitiek… niks meer. Wat een pijnlijke affaire voor de VRT en de bijzonder luidruchtige oppositie.
