My impression is that DO was to act as a bridge until we start to see results from robotaxi. Not something he had seriously developed. But I could be wrong. Is latency with V3 starlink actually that good between earth and orbit? My fiber is a lot cheaper, faster and lower latency than current starlink @DeNguyen73

Great article as always. I’d just add that Tesla’s solutions tend to be multifaceted and address the entire drivetrain. For example, Tesla sources batteries from third-party suppliers but still experiences fewer battery issues than many other OEMs. That’s largely due to how well they’ve optimized the BMS, including the thermal management design, to extend battery life and reduce fire risk. This engineering approach is shown in the vehicles’ energy efficiency.

@AboveItAll2030 I’m aware of this interview but I think they are still in the conceptual phase and not in the deployment phase. They are working on it’s in scenarios outside their lab environments

I don’t want to spend too much time on this, but the basic idea is that building the infrastructure for this future vision, consisting of Starlink V3 satellites and truly distributed AI compute, will take time. Today’s agentic AI carries out tasks by interacting with software running on your computer or in the cloud. Since we haven’t seen Grok integrate with office productivity tools yet, it’s unlikely we’ll see our Teslas handling office work anytime soon.

I think @DeNguyen73 has interesting thoughts on this. Latency is a huge issue you can't fix with starlink also high latency Edge compute does not equal data center As always, I'm not saying Elon can't find a solution but discussing the obvious issues should never be off the table

@Tesla So technically, my car could do useful work for me—running research or another task—or do useful work for someone else, either way making me money and staying productive.

@TheEVuniverse True but I don’t see solid state lidar, cameras. That’s why it’s just an image that they will partner with UBER.

@DeNguyen73 well, they do have a joint venture with Uber x Nuro already going for the Gravity side... probably 'exploring' a purpose built one. To be honest, their actually well-packaged efficient drivetrain is well positioned for this.

@AboveItAll2030 Like I said in the space, Tesla focuses on long-term objectives rather than quarter-to-quarter results. Investing in autonomy offers greater profitability potential than expanding into another vehicle segment.

@DeNguyen73 Tesla should directly compete with Rivian, imo its odd they haven't. The Rivian delivery van (Elon always liked the Mercedes sprinter), R1S and R1T, a midsize truck platform for global markets.
