I understand the difficulty and the tensions but I think as I myself has spoken to pass, it’s important to look at many issues that are related to what is the teaching of the Church. Someone who says I'm against abortion but I'm in favor of the death penalty, is not really pro-life. So someone who says that I'm against abortion but I'm agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants who in are the United States I don't know if that's pro-life; so they're very complex issues. I don't know if anyone has all the truth on them, but I would ask first and foremost that there'd be greater respect for one another, and that we search together both as human beings and that case is American citizens or citizens of the state of Illinois, as well as Catholics to say we need to, you know, really look closely at all of these ethical issues and to find the way forward as Church. Church teaching on each one of those issues is very clear. Thank you.”

WATCH: When I first ran for public office in 1982, I learned a lesson that shaped the rest of my career. Someone I thought was a supporter double-crossed me. The next morning, my dad looked at me and said: “If you don’t want to serve that person, go down to the courthouse and pay his taxes.”
That advice has stayed with me ever since. Public service means serving everyone, whether they voted for you or against you. As a U.S. Senator, I worked to deliver the same care and attention to all West Virginians, regardless of politics.
Now, more than ever, we need leaders who understand that public office is a position of trust, not a perk - a privilege to serve people, not yourself.

I am appalled by reports of the assassination of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the attempted assassination of Senator John Hoffman and his wife. Political violence threatens our democracy and has no home in America.
My heart goes out to Rep. Hortman’s children and family, and Anna and I join the nation in praying for the Hoffmans’ recovery.

Harrison Ruffin Tyler was born in 1928 and died in 2025.
His grandfather, the 10th President of the United States, was born in 1790 and died in 1862.

Their “one if by land, two if by sea” warning ignited the American Revolution.

On April 12, 1776, patriots in the North Carolina Provincial Congress adopted the Halifax Resolves, making North Carolina the first colony to call for independence from the British Crown. The Resolves helped set the stage for the Declaration of Independence nearly 3 months later.
North Carolina hasn’t answered to a king since.

With the 250th anniversary of America approaching next year, let's remember the words that sparked a revolution!
"Give me liberty, or give me death!"
On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry stirred the Virginia Convention with these powerful words, rallying the fight for American independence. But did you know? The version of this iconic speech we know today comes from one man—biographer William Wirt.
Decades later, Wirt reconstructed Henry’s speech for his 1817 biography, relying on eyewitnesses like St. George Tucker, John Roane, and John Tyler Sr. In fact, Tucker’s account became the foundation of Wirt’s version! 📜
Since no official transcript existed, historians still debate how accurate Wirt’s version really is. But one thing is certain—the spirit of Henry’s message still ignites the flames of freedom today.
