The loss of Destiny is something to me that feels incomprehensible and that I genuinely don't think I will be able to process for some time. I can't describe how disappointing it is to see a franchise I loved and was passionate about go out this way. Destiny deserved better.

Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

Wow I can't believe im actually saying this but Destiny 2 is officially dead. A whole decade of playing this game and it's finally coming to an end, it’s almost crazy to say goodbye. This game has given me so many memories and friendships that I'll never forget. I love everyone I’ve met throughout these years and even if we have bad blood and fell out, or just drifted away just know I love you too. This game was such a huge part of my childhood, and I will always have place in my heart for this franchise.❤️

This franchise has been a constant in my life for half of my existence. I remember pre ordering D1 at GameStop for the blacksmith shader. I remember moving to PC from console simply because I wanted to make friends. Never though I’d make content, get known, get witch hunted lol

All things being said, getting Destiny 1 for my birthday in 2014 genuinely changed the trajectory of my life for the better. I grew up poor in a very dangerous neighborhood in my city at the time, with who I hung out with not being the greatest of influences. I buried myself in sports & gaming to cope with my reality instead of following my piers who ended up in prison or worse. Through these times I found relationships that transcended your typical video game experience which forked into literal real life business connections and long lasting friendships that I still hold dear on a regular basis. It’s time has come and I would just like to celebrate and appreciate all those I’ve come across who I’ve had for pleasure to call friend by meeting you through this game, and look forward to what the future has in store for all of us. Adios Destiny and hello to future experiences 🤝

So the goal all along was to gut Destiny 2 for Marathon only for Marathon to average fewer players than Destiny. GGs. Milking a roadmap for 9 months just to post this is actually pathetic.
