100% agree with Nick, there is a huge difference between self-defense, where someone attacks you without any reason, and provoking someone into attacking you. One is a victim defending themselves, the other is manufactured victimhood.

Yeah, no I really do feel bad now — you're genuinely a good person and I had no right to judge you the way I did. At least this will make me think twice in future conversations about how I approach people. I'm so used to dealing with actual idiots that sometimes I can't tell the difference between someone with a different opinion and someone who's just an asshole.

There's a difference between saying something publicly, which yes, you have every right to do, and deliberately targeting and harassing specific people with it. Nobody is trying to ban the word — the point is that he wasn't just 'saying a word,' he was using it as a weapon to rage bait people on purpose. That's not free speech, that's harassment.
