Today, I finished the first week of my final placement as a student nurse. This one, along with my most recent one are the only placements I’ve had where I’m not just known as ‘the student’. Where I’m called by my first name. Where I’m included and expected. Where I’m listened to, taught, and respected. Where I’m encouraged to learn at every opportunity, and am invited to ask questions. Where I’ve not been made to feel inadequate, or a nuisance. Where I’m excited about going in every day. It’s taken getting to the end of my degree to feel valued as part of the team. This is how it should have been from the start. This is all I wanted from my training. This is what all students deserve. This is what I will give every student that I am ever fortunate enough to work with. I’m excited for the rest of my career, thanks to these two amazing teams.
