(2/2) When I walked back through the waiting room and looked for my new friend, she had gone. It made me think that maybe we all need a mammogram buddy. Our brief encounter had been so comforting.

I was sitting in my doctor's office waiting to be called for my yearly mammogram. I noticed a woman approaching me. She said, "You look upset, would you like me to sit with you? Yes, I responded. We had a brief but pleasant conversation until I was called in. (1/2)

(2/2) I see friends mourn this loss as strongly as they mourn a friend. Life is changed. They are children again.

We all suffer losses throughout our lives. Some are easier to bear while others mark us for life. As I approached my 80's I encountered a personal loss of great import that I had not previously considered. The loss of personal transportation, i.e. a car. (1/2)

@AJNierenberg Wonderful article! After my husband passed, I began writing to deal with my grief. Many of my essays revolved around the isolation one experiences when food shopping and eating alone. It took quite some time to find a "new normal."

Interesting read in the Times this morning. nytimes.com/2019/10/28/din… Food preparation, shopping, eating alone and dining out alone are all subjects I covered in Table for One.

Earlier this week I attended my 64th high school reunion. Within minutes apparent strangers morphed into people I knew very well. Was I was back in high school? One by one I discovered them anew, surrounded by my classmates, different but still the same. What a lovely experience.

I think that grieving for a loved one or friend has no specific endpoint. That doesn't mean that you aren't getting on with it. I call it Advanced Grief.

I started my spring cleaning - I don't seem to be getting too far with my closet. Every day I address a new area, but if I don't speed up I will find myself in September putting my winter clothes back in before I even get the change-over completed. Can you relate?

Haven't been feeling great lately. Someone remarked that I wasn't my zippy self. I said my zip has been zapped.
