A young lady walked into my place today, smiling, and said she wanted to see me. I asked her to come in and say what she wanted. She said she came to apply for a job but before she proceeds, she wants to bring her friend along. I paused. You haven’t even gotten the job yet, and you’re already bringing someone? She said the friend is close to her and can vouch for her. At that point, I just told myself, this one thinks this is a play zone. Anyway, I told her to call the friend. She signaled someone outside, and the girl walked in playing loud music on her phone. I asked her politely to pause it and continue when she leaves. She did, but reluctantly, then started chewing gum loudly like she didn’t even want to be there. At some point, I had to tell her, “You’re acting like I forced you to come. I was minding my business and you people came to meet me.” That level of attitude? I couldn’t ignore it. I told both of them to leave and apply properly, even though I had already made up my mind they won’t be working with me. First impressions matter. If this is how you show up when you need something, what happens when you finally get it? And to be honest, the way they carried themselves… it felt like they came straight from online because the first person was smiling so much.. Please, someone should advise Lateef and Bimpe to be careful about how people carry their babies. I understand everyone is happy and wants to visit, but it’s not safe for too many people to carry newborns. You don’t have to carry them before we know you visited. They are not objects to be touched by everyone. They are still very young and fragile, trying to adjust to the world. The truth is, many people carry germs like bacteria and viruses on their hands, and you don’t always know where those hands have been. It’s better to admire the babies from where they are lying.
