Craigavon Integrated College have put on an Ending Violence Against Women and Girls event that would rival any government department or events management company, the school where Natalie McNally and her brothers attended are helping keep her legacy alive

Club crisis in the GAA Many rural clubs haven't enough players. Some are on the brink. Super clubs haven't enough grass and attract players from smaller clubs' catchment area Chatted with Benny Hurl who is the GAA's Demographics Chair A big issue.. edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk/html5/reader/p…

A good chat with Kieran, To clarify the key points in this interview for me are: 1- We have an incredible product in Gaelic Games which I feel we could and should grow exponentially within Ireland and globally, but only as one integrated association.  2 - From travelling, researching and spending time in other sports, the club scene in Gaelic Games is phenomenal. Our traditionalism and parochialism is our greatest gift but can also be what holds us back from doing better. 3 - The biggest issue for me is at a national level where we do not have one integrated association where men and women receive equal opportunities. I’m very aware of the complexities and intricacies of a merger of this magnitude and the specific context of Gaelic Games, it’s the crux of my PhD research, but how can we say we have the best game in the world when we segregate people based on gender into different associations and therefore the opportunities provided differ.  4 - My point on homophobic abuse was, even as a straight male advocating for female sport in Ireland the abuse comes from within our own game and our own associations who should want better for everyone. Integration isn’t women’s gain being men’s loss, we all grow together. A sad sign of where we are at in Irish society in terms of women in sport but the research coincides with this in comparison to other countries, we are behind.  5 - From a national level player care needs to improve for both men and women. Elite sport can be gruelling physically but more so mentally and emotionally. There is a dark side to high performance that elite performers in any walk of life will know well and can resonate and that mental battle can take its toll personally and professionally. There is no other sport in the world that demands as much as we do from our elite inter-county players due to our amateur status. The amateur status doesn’t match the professional environments and professional expectations. 6 - Personally I will continue to try and maximise every ounce of my own career, that’s who I am, it’s the passion paradox, my drive can be to my detriment but that’s my choice. I want to get the absolute most out of my own career, but the increase in the level of professionalism of the game, the player demands, alongside the increase the game generates in sponsorship, spectatorship revenue in the last 10 years doesn’t equate to the level of player care and support. I love Gaelic Games, it has given me some the greatest moments in my life so far. It has shaped me, made me curious, has allowed me to express myself and given me opportunities nothing else could. But I am more than just a Gaelic footballer, that won’t define me in the end, I am a brother, son, friend, teammate, colleague and fan. I have a vision of a greater game and association for all and know we can do better when we come together 🙏🏼

''I got homophobic abuse when I was playing for Tyrone. Fellas on the other team questioning my sexuality. Then you'd have fellas saying I should be playing for the Tyrone ladies." Had an eye-opening chat with @CMeyler. irishmirror.ie/sport/gaa/tyro…
