Final mix for today we go back 35 years with a phenomenal artist:
This is Larry Levan Live (RIP) @ Ministry Of Sound, London 23.11.91
A decade long resident of the infamous Paradise Garage in New York, overseeing the sound transition from disco and soul to house, Larry was an absolute icon of the very, very earliest New York scene. He passed in 1992. Tracklist in comments.
Reminder that all mixes uploaded here today go on my Kofi for download tonight.

@DEPARTURES19 @Art_of_Sampling He looks like Music of My Mind which would fit in with what the interviewer is saying. Although Where I’m Coming From made big moves in that direction too

@shooterjennings It’s nothing to do with age. It’s lazy, uninspired and out and out thievery. Claiming to have made something when it’s just been mushed together by software. And it produces the most boring, MOR music you can think of. And still ppl are proud to claim it is their own creation.

I was shocked this last week to start to realize that AI’s use in music is much more pervasive than I thought. I’ve seen a lot of people making acoustic demos of songs they wrote and then feeding them into Suno or other models to make full band demos.
I guess I’m more isolated from it on the daily in the studio as it’s never used when we record… so this revelation came as a shock of sorts.
I don’t have a problem with AI being used as a tool at all, I’m using it to help me convert a game I programmed in another language to one that will work on phones. It has great use…
But to see how commonplace it is to lean on it through multiple layers of the artistic creative and conjuration process made me concerned.
Time to double down if you’re doing it the old way, I guess!
Signed, the old man

An open letter was published this week titled "SAY NO TO SUNO".
It's from the Music Artists Coalition, the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance, and more.
They call Suno a "brazen 'smash and grab' platform", saying it "appropriates and plunders [...] creative work while undermining the commercial ecosystem for artists".
"Suno built its business on our backs, scraping the world’s cultural output without permission, then competing against the very works exploited."
"We in the arts must rise to confront those who would 'smash-and-grab' our creativity for their own benefit."
