Today @NVIDIAGTC we cemented our spot as the industry leader in the materials space. Autonomous labs are the future, and no one is building nearly as fast as our amazing team @RadicalAI.

We are first phone calls for our founders, we are operators and engineers going deep on business and tech, and we have been doing this for a while (And we have a few stubbed toes and lessons learned as a result ... as well as more than a few big outcomes playing out) I welcome as many folks to deep tech as will join - but it is hard(er) in many ways and you should not be lazy about it But then you should never be lazy with OPM ... I feel the weight of that fiduciary hat and the promise to multiply capital This is never supposed to be an easy job or easy wins Deep tech is still where all the biggest wins will be 🦾

there has never been a better time (since the 1900s) to vertically integrate because the unspoken reality of reindustrialisation after 50 years of deindustrialisation, is that a new co can pick up high leverage, high value industrial assets (people, plant, space, machinery, entire businesses) for pennies (well below replacement cost) from owners in their 60s and 70s keen to retire, haven’t heard of AI but passionate enough to stay on in a consultancy role. once reindustrialisation hits it’s stride you’ll probably see the npv of those assets rise rather than fall. this is especially true in the UK. and all before the PE roll-ups, roll into town. NEW POD: Valar Atomics founder and CEO Isaiah Taylor joins us to talk about why energy may be the most important bottleneck of the 21st century, and why nuclear has to scale if the U.S. wants to compete. We also covered: • Why China is building nuclear reactors at a pace the U.S. hasn’t seen since the 1950s • The real constraint on AI, robotics, and manufacturing: energy • Small modular reactors and Valar’s containerized nuclear design • Why most nuclear startups overcomplicate the problem • The case for designing reactors like Toyota Camrys, not Lamborghinis • Why production rate and scale matter more than theoretical efficiency Now available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

Three weeks ago, the DOE formally approved Valar Atomics' Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis (PDSA) for the Ward250 reactor. We are on track for power operations before the President's target of July 4th, 2026.

Isaiah Taylor - making nuclear reactors
Last night, I had the honor of being the keynote speaker at the National Criticality Safety Program's Technical Program Review, where I shared an update on the incredible work that Valar team and NCERC did on Project Nova. So grateful for the critically important work of NCSP.

I think it's massively under-appreciated how much work goes into these reviews on the USG side. One of the best parts of my job is meeting the insanely smart folks from DOE, NRC, Naval reactors, and the labs who are working around the clock to safely move nuclear energy forward!

What advice would Valar Atomics CEO Isaiah Taylor give his earlier self? Hire the best before you need them. "There were a few times early on where I thought, 'Okay, I'm not quite ready to go make that crazy hire yet," he says. But hiring winners ahead of need can set a culture. "That tick rate of moving really fast is something that you do by bringing on the best." Catch the full interview with @isaiah_p_taylor and @valaratomics on The Upstarts Podcast: YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=mNFCGH… Apple: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/val… Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/5RwCYj…

"If Valar doesn't do this, China and Russia will be the world's nuclear energy source." Experts have doubted @valaratomics CEO Isaiah Taylor (@isaiah_p_taylor) every step of the way. He says every future $1 trillion company should seem a little crazy -- and that no other nuclear startup is moving fast enough to solve our energy needs 🏭 On our new episode of The Upstarts Podcast, Isaiah shares why he founded Valar as his 'life's work', why other well-funded startups have failed in nuclear, and his Upstart Moment on the road to raising $150M for new-look energy campuses called “gigasites" 🚧 “Safety is non-negotiable, but also safe and slow are not the same thing,” Taylor tells @UpstartsMediaCo. A big thanks to our podcast partner @mercury for amplifying these Upstarts stories 💪 Enjoy! youtu.be/mNFCGHFscoM

For 150 years, materials science has worked like this: Make something → test it → see if it works → repeat for a decade. We flipped it. We start with the properties we need—thermal resistance for hypersonic flight, conductivity for fusion—and inversely design the material from that target. It's the holy grail of materials science, and allows us to do in days what once took hundreds of PhD-level specialists years.
