Paraskevidekatriaphobia: fear of Friday the 13th. In Norse myth 12 gods had a dinner party in Valhalla. The trickster god Loki, who was not invited, arrived as the 13th guest, & contrived for Höðr to shoot Balder with a mistletoe-tipped arrow, his one weakness. 🧵

A brief primer of the History of the superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th: The ancient Code of Hammurabi omitted a 13th law from its list of legal rules. It is unknown why, the superstitious say this is evidence of 13’s negative vibe dating back to Antiquity.🧵

When Balder died the Earth was shrouded in darkness. The whole Earth mourned, the sky, the land, the seas, the winds. It was a bad and the most unlucky of days. This major event in Norse mythology caused the number 13 to be inauspicious, or even cursed.

The 1907 novel Friday, the Thirteenth by Thomas William Lawson, tells the story of a New York City Stockbroker who uses the superstitions about the date to create chaos on Wall Street, and make a killing on the stock market. Thus contextualizing the fear for the modern world.

Hey folks, fun note about this, it’s built off comfyui, which is basically every unethical model merged into one work flow! So yeah, Netflix and the “screw you I got mine” folk are pushing unethical models built off the work of the workers they hope to replace. Gross!
