So this happened! I visited my usual barber after almost 1.5 or 2 years. I'd thought he wouldn't recognize me and he usually only takes customers who have taken appointments so I was sure he'd tell me to leave or have one of his assistants give me a haircut. But to my surprise, he recognized me instantly and even left a customer who was getting a haircut midway just to make me feel welcome. The entire salon was looking at me like I was some local celebrity. He then proceeded to let me cut in line and made 2-3 people who had made appointments wait. Gave them random excuses like "Sir had an appointment at 5:30, yours is 6. Wait a little." (YES, he must be twice my age but always calls me SIR) When giving me an haircut, he enquired where I was all this while, and I did not have it in me to tell him that I was going to a barber shop just 5 mins from my place. At this point, I can completely empathize with men who don't blink an eye cheating on their girlfriend but cannot tell their barber they are seeing someone else. 🤭 Anyway, I had to make up an excuse that I'd moved abroad. One thing led to the other, and I made up this whole story of how I was in the US for all these months and had to come back hastily coz of Trump's new laws. 🇺🇸🗽 What followed was a geopolitical session you'd seldom hear even in the UN offices. The choicest gaalis the entire salon gave Trump was hilarious. Most folks had never even been to the US but hated him with a vengence that's just unexplainable. Everyone spoke like an expert and had such brilliant observations! But the most surprising part though is he knew exactly what my preferred style is despite all these years. Guy must be giving 10-15 haircuts a day, 100+ diff customers, but he remembers my exact preferences despite this huge gap. It was as if I had never gone to any other barber ever. So ladies, the next time you are left wondering WHY men are more loyal to their barbers than they are to you, the answer is this. These wonderful stories and discussions, that head massage after the haircut, the soul-stirring playlist, and royal treatment like this, just one priceless experience. I was just one step away from starting a monthly subscription at this point. 😅 So yeah, getting a haircut can be an experience too!
