I don’t believe in these things, but a few years ago we were struggling just to see Sanju Samson get a proper spot in the Indian team. Sanju was unfairly treated for many years. He was picked in the ODI squad when it was T20 World Cup time, and vice versa during ODI World Cup preparations. He was snubbed from all these major tournaments when he deserved to be there: • 2021 – ICC Men’s T20 World Cup • 2022 – ICC Men’s T20 World Cup • 2023 – Asia Cup • 2023 – Asian Games • 2023 – ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup • 2025 – ICC Champions Trophy In 2023, the Indian cricket team represented India in three different tournaments: Asia Cup, Asian Games, and the ODI World Cup. A total of 31 different players were selected across those squads, and Sanju was not part of any of them. He was only picked as a backup player for the Asia Cup, which also meant he missed the chance to be part of the Asian Games squad and then he was released from the Asia Cup squad too. In 2024, after his most successful IPL season, we all expected him to be India’s first-choice wicket keeper for the World Cup, but he didn’t play a single match. But everything changed after Gautam Gambhir became India’s coach. For years, Sanju kept playing out of position. He was asked to bat in the lower order, and his role kept changing. When Ramesh Chennithala was Opposition Leader, we lost the election to LDF with LDF winning 99 seats. He was an utter failure as Opposition Leader. VD brought the mojo back.
