Why does the #ERC20 spec demand that a Transfer() event is emitted on 0-value transfers? What does it accomplish? Wouldn't bypassing events from 0-val transferFrom() greatly cut down on address poisoning attempts from identifiable tokens like USDC? (fake tokens are easy to spot)

But what about a developer who builds a project and allocates 30-40% of the supply to his own team or engages in price manipulation? Or 5 years Old project with $9mil mcap & claim, it's best Defi. eg $Bifi ?

@VitalikButerin It would be helpful to separate "Validation" from "Verification"; every CL/EL client stores *way* more chain state than it should have to in order to simply validate incoming blocks. Running a node shouldn't just be easy, but also inexpensive (given rising storage costs).

I feel like at every level we've implicitly made this decision that running a node is this oh so scary devops task that it is ok to leave to professionals. IT IS NOT. We need to reverse this. Running your own Ethereum infrastructure should be the basic right of every individual and household. "The hardware requirement is high, therefore it's okay for the devops skill and time requirements to also be high" is not an excuse. Even people who can afford high-end hardware, dedicated staking boxes, etc often do not have a lot of free time. Nodes should be easy.

We should be open to revisiting whole beacon/execution client separation thing. Running two daemons and getting them to talk to each other is far more difficult than running one daemon. Our goal is to make the self-sovereign way of using ethereum have good UX. In many cases that means running your own node. The current approach to running your own node adds needless complexity. Short-term, maybe we want some more standardized basic wrapper that lets you install dockers of any client and make them talk to each other easily? Also good that @ethnimbus unified node github.com/status-im/nimb… exists. Longer term, we should be open to revisiting the whole architecture once @leanethereum lean consensus is more mature.

@0xW1re But there's no consistency lost with not broadcasting a zero-value transfer; it's essentially a no-op that can help reduce a chunk of spam. Scammers can dust with incoming, but they can't pretend an address *sent* tokens to a lookalike address

@DefiDebauchery spec forces zero transfer events so indexers wallets and contracts stay consistent without edge cases otherwise everything breaks and scammers just dust with 1wei usdc.

@WatcherGuru Also, I still can't grasp the issue with a CBDC. Wouldn't it give transparency (blockchain and all) to spending and be a helluva lot more convenient to pay for services (licensing, etc)? Is it an unfounded fear that the gov would "ban" other forms of crypto? I don't get it.

@banteg Probably Visitor TT1 BRK. Old school pixel font a lot of early 2000s game devs used.

I've tried several Railgun frontends, none of them work. This seems to be a Railgun issue. What am I supposed to do?
