Permanent Delegation of Japan to UNESCO

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Japan’s accession to UNESCO. Over the past decades, we have consistently supported the Organization’s missions. Our commitment remains steadfast, guided by the principles of international solidarity and mutual respect.

On April 27, Ambassador Kano attended and delivered remarks at a masterclass organized by the Kura Master Association at Pavillon Ledoyen, dedicated to the pairing of cuisine by renowned French chef Yannick Alléno with sake made from the “Yamada Nishiki” rice variety.

On 14th April, Ambassador Kano hosted a reception gathering World Heritage Committee Members. Mr Nishimura Takanori, Vice Governor of the Nara Prefecture, presented “The Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara”, nominated for inscription on the World Heritage List.

FM MOTEGI visited the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris and held a meeting with H.E. Prof. Khaled EL-ENANY, Director-General of UNESCO.　He extended his congratulations on the H.E. Prof. EL-ENANY’s assumption of the Director-General’s office. From 22 to 25 March, technicians from the Japan Federation of Landscape Contractors (JFLC), carried out maintenance work on the ‘Garden of Peace’ at UNESCO Headquarters. On the final day, Ambassador Kano, together with Pr. El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO, visited the garden.

Ambassador Kano invited Ms TSUCHIHASHI Yasuko to hold a lecture on Japanese calligraphy including demonstrations at his Residence on March 24. She presented Japanese aesthetics and the spirit of ‘wa’ (harmony) as expressed through Calligraphy.

On March 23, Ambassador Kano hosted a lecture on Japanese Calligraphy by Calligrapher TSUCHIHASHI Yasuko at the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris. Japanese Calligraphy is scheduled to be examined for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

On March 12th, we hosted a screening of a documentary film “Pionnières au Japon” at Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris. We were delighted to welcome the film director Mathieu Despiau, former football player Laure Boulleau and sushi chef Yuki Chidui who appears in the film.

Its support in the most complex emergencies underscores the essential role of education, culture and information on the frontlines of peoples’ needs, and it also serves as a powerful reminder of how vital international cooperation is to global stability. #ForThePeople
