The rest of the NFL might not care as much, but Cleveland #Browns fans should have interest in what happens with New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara. In February 2022, Kamara was arrested after being indicted on battery charges for beating a man in Las Vegas. The incident was caught on camera.
The criminal charges were dropped and this week, Kamara pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge. But the NFL can still issue its own punishment.
Last year, the NFL suspended Deshaun Watson for 11 games for violating the Personal Conduct Policy despite no legal charges and two grand juries dismissing the cases due to insufficient evidence from any of the allegations. No police reports, no arrests, no evidence and not one charge.
Let's see if the NFL feels Kamara violated the Personal Conduct Policy by beating a man on video, getting arrested and being charged with a felony. We said all along the 11-game phantom suspension for Watson would set a precedent the NFL won't be likely to follow. This will show if simple allegations without evidence can derail a player's career more than committing a crime on tape, being formally charged and getting arrested.
One last interesting note: The assault happened the night BEFORE the Pro Bowl. There was a warrant for Kamara's arrest, but the NFL allowed him to play in the game anyway. He was then arrested after the game.
The NFL has no moral standing, and for those claiming it does, you've been fooled. Stay tuned.
