I love what Carlos Cortes has brought to the A’s this season and he deserves more ABs, but Lawrence Butler will always have a slight edge when it comes to starting. I feel a lot of that has to do with the amount of money the front office has invested in him.
Average $9.3M/year through 2031 and they want to see that ROI.
I hope Lawrence Butler can get back to his 2024 form at some point. That would be huge.

I like this lineup, but I’m curious what they are doing with Carlos Cortes. Him not starting against lefties is one thing, but he’s not starting against righties now.
A’s should sell high on him if they are hell bent on him not being a regular in the lineup vs RHP.

@OoheyGooeyEwan @BSendrowski I have McKenna going 1st and Stenberg going 2nd. I dont think that would happen either but there will definitely be discussions. McKenna may or may not be enough to keep Matthews around. There's gonna be alot of wheels turning in Toronto this off-season.

You just simply don't pass up on a better overall player for a "need". That's how the best rosters are built. You take every opportunity to upgrade even if its at a position that's already stacked. Adding Stenberg frees up a player like Eklund and others to be moved. They'll be getting help on their blueline with Pohlkamp and Cagnoni as well. Alot of moving parts but the talking heads in the media know damn well that Stenberg and McKenna are 1A and 1B in this draft lol Stenberg is a phenomenal player that's game will translate extremely well to the NHL. He's more game ready than McKenna while McKenna has the higher offensive ceiling. Toronto is also a team that can throw an absolute wrench into the top of the draft by drafting Stenberg over McKenna. Crazier things have happened.

He wouldn't be a better pick than Stenberg. People seem to forget that team needs another stud up front in the top 6 as well. There was a 56 point drop off after celebrini. Stenberg is too good to pass on. They have PLENTY of ammo to swing trades. Reid is 2+ years out and still has alot of work that needs to be done. Current projections for him our a 2nd pairing dman. Stenberg slots right in on that top line and is an instant contributor. He's done all that this year against grown men too. Grier is a BPA guy and thats Stenberg. He's already said it himself.

@DeltaDood24 @BSendrowski They desperately need a RHD, they shouldn’t pass up on the opportunity to draft a very good defender with Certain Number 1 D upside, Right Shot Offensive puck moving D are so rare and vital for a team like SJS. Drafting Chase would complement that team so well/over Stenberg

@BSendrowski Stenberg is going 2nd and the Sharks aren't gonna reach for Reid. His value doesn't fit there and after McKenna/Stenberg the talent drop is more significant than most seem to realize.
