How can life change in just a single moment? Only moments ago, there was laughter, joy, and play. I was doing everything I could to create a few happy memories for my daughter, Rafif — small moments of happiness for a child who deserves nothing but a normal childhood. And then, suddenly… everything changed. Powerful explosions. Walls shaking. Buildings trembling. And our hearts feeling as though they were about to burst from our chests with fear. Is this justice? Do we deserve all this pain and terror? At any moment, you may hear that Rafif’s entire family is gone. The days will pass, life will move on, and perhaps we too will be forgotten, as so many others have been forgotten. But Rafif was here. She was a little girl who dreamed of growing up, laughing more, and living a life like every other child in this world. If you remember anything, remember Rafif.

Because there is almost no clean water available, Muhammad has been forced to drink and bathe with seawater, his wife and children too. The salt burns the skin, leaving them with painful rashes, relentless itching, and skin disease. Yet there is no other choice. In Gaza today, finding clean water is a daily struggle. International organizations have closed down water access points and shut down other aid points like community kitchens. Water is life. These are basically life essentials. Not some privilege. At The Sameer Project, we are working to restore access to clean, desalinated water because every family deserves to drink safely, bathe without pain, and live with dignity.
