This AAPI Heritage Month, we honor a labor organizing tradition that has long existed—even when laws were written to suppress it. Across industries, AAPI communities have been building collective power for generations. That work is a core part of the movement we’re in right now.

Remember, if our votes didn’t matter, they wouldn’t try so hard to take them away. Show up anyway.

It’s been two weeks since the ruling came down in Louisiana v. Callais, effectively gutting the Voting Rights Act, and we are already seeing the effects. Conservatives across the nation have been racing to their respective halls of power to suppress Black and brown voices.

Alabama already is one of only three states that do not have early voting and has one of the most restrictive absentee voting systems in the nation, so for many, it is vote on Election Day or not vote at all. AL also does not provide ballot drop boxes. demos.nyc/4tAN6JE

Not to be outdone, Alabama will now throw out its court-ordered congressional map for the 2026 primaries and instead use a 2023 map that courts previously struck down as a Section 2 violation. demos.nyc/4wuahrx

What a time to be alive. As we celebrate 25 years, our 2025 Annual Report looks back on what we’ve built together and ahead to the work still before us: building new norms, new institutions, and new forms of power, ushering in a Third Reconstruction. demos.nyc/4ubBbmH

This month’s jobs reports shows continued economic instability for Black women, who saw an increase in their unemployment rate to 6.5%. Adding to the potential instability for all workers, job growth continues to be dominated by only a few industries, and the number of discouraged workers—those who have given up trying to find a job—has increased over the last year. Read our recent report on Black women’s disproportionate job losses: iwpr.org/one-year-into-…

One week after the SCOTUS gutted the VRA, TN became the first state to pass a map eliminating a majority‑Black district. The plan splits Memphis (60% Black) into three predominantly white conservative districts, silencing the city's Black community. [+] bit.ly/4dtdzUy

The cost-of-living crisis stems from decades of disinvestment in working families. As Dēmos President @TaifaButler says, we need meaningful tax code reform—and much more—to reverse course and put more money into the pockets of everyday people.

Workers—especially Black, brown, or low‑income workers—are too often disempowered on the job, at the bank, and at the ballot. @TaifaButler examines how rebuilding worker power can turn the cycle between economic & political power from vicious to virtuous. demos.nyc/48IRuyO
