After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Looking at the longer-term trend of EU asylum applications from the Western Balkans 🇦🇱 remains the primary source. Over the last five years, 46% of all regional applications originated from Albania alone.

However, this shift was temporary and aligned with forecasted trends. When compared to the historical surges seen in other Western Balkan neighbors post-liberalization experience, Kosovo’s growth remains relatively modest.

Specifically, Kosovo witnessed a 144% increase—rising from 2,310 applicants in 2023 to 5,635 in 2024. Most of these applications were concentrated in three countries: France (3,150), Germany (1,665), and Italy (485).

In 2024, asylum applications from the WB continued to decline across the region - except in Kosovo, which was the only country to see an increase. However, this increase was temporary, aligned with forecasted trends, and remained well below the historical regional experience.
