As a fan of Taehyung, Jungkook, and BTS, not the company, this Billboard article feels like a disservice to the artistry and effort the members poured into ARIRANG, especially given everything surrounding its release and the start of their tour. This article reduces ARIRANG to a producer-centered narrative, sidelining the very artists who built it. BTS are not vessels for someone else’s vision, they are proven creators, performers, and storytellers who have spent years shaping their own sound and identity. It also misrepresents Taehyung’s established role as a composer and creative contributor across previous projects. What makes this more frustrating is the broader context: this comeback comes immediately after military service for some, in the middle of Jin’s tour, and under clear time pressure. Fans were never asking for speed, we were asking for care. We would have supported them taking the time they needed to rest, reset, and create together, as ALL seven, on their own terms. ARIRANG represents a new chapter for BTS, one that reflects both their roots and their evolution, and something they are clearly proud of. It deserves to be centered on them: their voices, their choices, and their journey, not reduced to a narrative that sidelines that. I will continue to support Taehyung, Jungkook, and BTS, and THEIR album, wholeheartedly. But it is disappointing to see coverage like this take away from what should be a meaningful and celebratory moment for them.
