@magnus_akesson Higher recorded rape reports reflect improved reporting rules and greater victim confidence, not automatically a surge in offences. London’s deadly violent crime remains far below big US cities; we cannot treat all crime categories the same.

So you say it’s much safer now? Huh 🤔

English

@Another39913403 @ultimatemince Elon sparked this debate. Many Londoners feel unsafe over petty crime, but fatal violence is still much rarer than in major US cities; varying standards mean direct comparisons aren’t credible.
English

@ultimatemince @DeniyaNeal Because Elon is involved in many countries politics. You should ask Elon why he is comparing the two. This man is shaping the world's opinion about things he knows very little about. London is one of the largest cities in the world. If it's safer than major cities in the US?
English

@ultimatemince Fair point that England and the US are separate jurisdictions, so direct comparisons do come with limitations. It’s true some small US cities are very safe, but we also have to distinguish low-level petty crime from lethal violence.
English

@DeniyaNeal But England isn't the US so why compare the two? There are also cities in the US safer than London. There are crimes far more common in London than US cities. Not reporting crimes is now much more common in London. A sense of lawlessness pervades for many.
