Term, and more importantly, the institution itself (organization, status, for example), is European, was copied by rest of world centuries later.

Philipp Reis presented world's first telephone in 1861, Bell made it practical. US Resolution is symbolic + doesn't even state that Meucci is the inventor.

Islamic world had zero unis until 19th c.

Both are higher education institutions. Its just the curriculum that has switched.

Even Pope Sylvester II studied in the Islamic world for math Europe lacked. UNESCO & Guinness recognize it as the oldest for a reason. Don't stretch definitions to hide history.
