Dear German brothers, we already have more than enough problems with the peoples of the third world.
So why kill each other again over Alsace-Lorraine?

Wie ich dich angucke, nachdem du gesagt hast: "Elsass-Lothringen muss wieder in Deutschen Besitz übergehen."
English

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons 1870 when France declared war on Germany over a Depesche and in 1914 when Russia mobilised on the German border in coordination with Paris? With this in mind, the notion of an “aggressive Germany” falls apart like a house of cards.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons If we are revisiting interwar Poland, then we can also revisit France. France did not invent German militarism in its imagination. After 1870 and 1914, French suspicion toward German power was not paranoia; it was historical memory.

They are planning a special military operation to liberate the Germanic minorities in Eastern France

Heuchlerisch.

@HolexTv @FilipVavra77 It’s heartbreaking, one day we will rebuild all these cities in a proper manner. But admittedly, the Czechs did a good job in terms of maintaining and rebuilding a lot of the Bohemian cities. We can’t really say the same about Western Germany, Slovakia and parts of Hungary/Poland
English

@DerStavanger @FilipVavra77 Karlsbad is the one that is somewhat still beautiful (with occasional ugly brutalist structures) but Most/Brüx was worst

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons Poland attacked Lithuania and the Soviet Union during the inter-war period and you were constantly war mongering and claiming that you’ll take Berlin in one week. To portray Poland as an innocent victim is quite laughable.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons Funny how quickly “we all lost a lot” becomes “let’s not revisit the past” once the conversation reaches German responsibility.
Europe did not randomly collapse into tragedy. Nazi Germany broke the continent, and the consequences did not fall from the sky.
English

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons We all lost a lot during that war, I don’t see the point of revisiting something that happened many decades before either of us was born. Europe today is a very different place than it was 90 years ago.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons If your argument jumps from Baltic tragedy to relativising the SS, then the victims of Oradour, Wola and Khatyn have already been erased from your “complexity.” Khatyn, not Katyn: Khatyn was a Belarusian village burned by Nazi-led forces in 1943, with 149 civilians murdered;
English

@HolexTv @FilipVavra77 I agree and it was more a joke anyway, but it’s a shame what happened to Karlsbad for example. Germans/Austrians and Czechs are so close anyway, it’s a shame that the 20th century ruined 800 years of peaceful coexistence.
English

@DerStavanger @FilipVavra77 I'm not anti-German but let's be realistic, inside German cities the Ethnic structure is changing, and in Sudetes gypsies are mostly in ghettos/Poor areas, while it's mostly czechs who live there now, but it's also sad what commies did to mamy towns there.

@_Sosthene_ Rats do leave the sinking ship after all.. but we thankfully have other options than to shoot at each other once more.
I think the main issue is that both German and French people suffer from a lack of humor, so tweets like these are always taken at face value.
English

@DerStavanger If it helps the brown people from our respective countries return home, lol.
No, seriously, I know he's trolling.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons Khatyn or the victims of SS terror.
The victims deserve to be mentioned.
English

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons It’s telling enough that you didn’t comment on the Latvian and Estonian aspect. Should we boycott Poland and Czechia for the 15 million ethnic Germans who were expelled? Was that justice? You claim to speak in good faith, but that’s not the case.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons “History is not black and white” becomes a very strange sentence when it is used mainly to soften the image of the Waffen-SS. But your instinctive response to criticism of the Waffen-SS is to shout “Vietnam” and “Grande Armée”, instead of mentioning Oradour-sur-Glane, Wola...
English

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons Central Europe doesn’t tell Germany with whom we can trade or not trade. Poland itself was receiving Russian gas through a direct pipeline until recently, but of course Nordstream is the problem because you couldn’t charge us transit fees anymore.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons Defending Nord Stream as innocent “German infrastructure” is quite a take. It was built to bypass Central Europe, deepen German dependence on Russian gas and strengthen Moscow’s geopolitical leverage. And when the war escalated, Russia itself weaponised gas deliveries,

@Pierre1036380 @_Sosthene_ Pierre, es ist nicht mehr 1870, Europa hat heutzutage ganz andere Probleme. Trink einen Kamillentee, das sollte helfen.

Français

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons You’re Polish, aren’t you? I don’t see what’s so difficult about understanding that not everything is black/white.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons “I don’t like Krah, but his Waffen-SS statement was reasonable” is quite a sentence.
This is the AfD problem in miniature: it claims to defend Europe, but somehow always ends up hostile to Warsaw, Prague, Paris, Washington — and strangely understanding toward Moscow.
English

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons Clearly, Agent Orange was a humanitarian project, how could I forget? What about the Estonian and Latvian SS-volunteers who just wanted to free their homeland from the Soviet Union, are they war criminals aswell?
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons “Were all GIs war criminals?” is a cute dodge.
The Waffen-SS was not the U.S. Army, nor the Grande Armée. It was the military arm of the SS, an organisation judged criminal at Nuremberg. If your first instinct is to relativise that, the problem is not historical nuance.
English

@WillardTho92138 @BaguetteWeapons Exactly, Russian-German infrastructure, it’s our infrastructure aswell. Just because Russia marched into Ukraine doesn’t mean that some people can just blow up our infrastructure unopposed.
English

@DerStavanger @BaguetteWeapons No. A Polish court refusing extradition because Germany failed to provide sufficient evidence is not “shielding saboteurs.”
And calling Nord Stream simply “our infrastructure” is doing a lot of work. It was a Russian-German pipeline serving Russian strategic interests.
English
