I'm gonna sound harsh, but studios that spent decades sitting on the throne and now keep dropping mid after mid deserve to get dethroned.
That's how the industry is supposed to work.
If the blood stops circulating, it rots.
Gaming used to be about competition. Someone would make a hit, and instead of copying their homework, another studio would come along and try to outdo them with something completely different. It was an endless cycle of studios rising, others falling, and the industry getting better because of it.
Now half the industry is surviving on nostalgia, remasters, and the sentence, "From the studio that brought you X."
If a new studio can do it better, move over.
Let someone hungry have a turn.

Those of us who grew up with Bethesda, Bioware, and Obsidian leading the charge on western RPGs eventually found ourselves wowed by the works of CD Projekt Red, Larian, and Warhorse. We kept the light on hoping those former studios would return to their place at the top, but instead they feel replaced by the latter. All good things come to an end I suppose.

I think it can be a bit of both. obviously the delays overall can be put on leadership, but also if you’re ordering a sandwitch and get a bagel, it’s not just management that’s the problem. I know a lot of people enjoyed the bagel. If we should be mad at anyone it is leadership.
People losing jobs obviously sucks. And from a human level I can sympathize. But from a consumer level, I’ve been waiting for my sandwitch and the cook made a bagel. Maybe the manager only provided bagels instead of buns. But I’m still upset at the cook. And it’s hard for me to feel bad for the cook, when I haven’t been served to my expectations.
If McDonald’s corporate office came in and “restructured this franchise location (including layoffs of veterans) I honestly don’t feel bad for them.

Yeah, for sure, but also the artists and devs are effected here, not the suits that run the time frames or manage the workflow.

A few people I know that got cut from Bethesda have informed me that the company is using this a guise to say its restructuring, when in fact Bethesda is union busting. Fans are welcome to their rally on the 15th and its because of the union busting that they are protesting.

@Avantle Interesting. A new kalpa in theory would be really cool. Although a new kalpa means new bedrock lore for that kalpa. I think with current Bethesda, the more reference they have from “the good ol days” the better.

Bethesda Game Studios’ union is holding rallies on July 15 to protest Microsoft’s recent Xbox layoffs. The events will take place in Rockville, Maryland, and Austin, Texas. The union is inviting workers, fans, and supporters to attend and show solidarity with affected employees. In its announcement, the union said it’s time to “stand together against Microsoft’s layoffs” and called on people to “show up for workers who make the games we love.”

Poor performance leads to layoffs in every other industry. Idk why people think gaming is an exception to that.
It doesn't matter if gaming is "art" if that art costs millions and millions of dollars to make.
