I think there are some valid complaints with the engine. I just don’t think the issues it has are substantial enough to warrant completely abandoning it. Creation kit does very well at their type of game.
That being said, the limitations of “cells” does break immersion with loading screens and is a valid criticism. Especially when for me at the least, a large appeal of Bethesda games is getting lost in the world. The menu surfing in Starfield did take me out of it significantly and is my second largest complaint with the game. Compared to other games in their genre, the flow is broken.
When looking at fallout or elder scrolls it’s much less noticeable because it’s a singular open world with smaller instanced areas to load into. (Even though those world spaces are also separate cells blending together(that and open cities mods tells me it’s possible with the creation kit as well))
I’m not sure if every candle stick in an inn flying around with havoc settling is worth the instance cell (and therefore break of continuity and immersion) trade off anymore in the current gaming environment, but it is a large factor in Bethesda games.
