Dear Community Bankers, From my very earliest of memories, when I would ask my Dad about whether I should join a club, run for student government or side with one friend over another during lunch table disputes growing up, he’d always say, without hesitation, “be your own person, Anne Marie.” That advice carried forward from law school and legal services through the financial crisis a decade ago when I served as a regulator for the state of Maryland, and still holds true today. I’ve learned there are times when you must simply tune out the loudest and most seemingly influential or critical voices and just be your own person. Yesterday happened to be one of those days when I logged off of my ICBA laptop for the last time after joining just three short years ago. During these past few years I have grown and learned so much and am incredibly proud to have contributed to some of the advocacy wins while leading the incredible Government Relations team at @ICBA. The GR team has continued to inspire and amaze me up until my very last day and for that, I’m incredibly honored and grateful. But equally inspiring and worthy of gratitude are the community banks and bankers from across this great county that welcomed me into the Main Street family from the very moment I arrived.  As I’ve said repeatedly to everyone ranging from the Treasury Secretary to a random guy sharing the seat with me on the DC metro red line, I firmly believe that the United States economy remains the envy of the free world because of the strength and diversity of our financial system, all fueled by community banks … one Main Street at a time! This is something that cannot be taken lightly and that we must strive to preserve, protect and push forward each and every day.  So as I turn the page to the next chapter, I hope that my passion and desire to serve this incredible industry continues to grow and that I may continue to play a small part in its greater success. And until that time, I remain incredibly grateful to have had this opportunity and honored to serve this great industry!
