How economics work:
“They're trying to make economics sound very complicated, but it's really not that complicated. The standard of living increases when the average output of goods and services increases per person. There's basically more stuff, therefore you have more stuff to divide across the people. That's it.”

@DerrickEnders @waitbutwhy 49% of the population would've died by their own choice.
It's not the red voters' fault that the blue voters make bad decisions.
English

@OutlandishPS @HeidiBriones I remember my upbringing and the circumstances
English

@waitbutwhy @MrBeast can you re-create this in one of your you tube videos?
The reactions here are wild. I’d like to see how it plays out in one of your games.
English

@waitbutwhy The “red is the only right answer” crew are weak in altruism.
If they convince just 9% more of the voters to see it their way, suddenly 49% of the population dies.
English

@pleasedPlayer @waitbutwhy I’m not picking you for my team
English

@DerrickEnders @waitbutwhy Yeah and? I voted red because I don't care if 49% of the population dies. I assume everyone else who voted red feels the same way.
There's absolutely zero reason to vote blue.
English

@DerJbrand @waitbutwhy Oh no, I was referring to those who’ve been posting that red is the only correct choice
English

@DerrickEnders @waitbutwhy You misunderstand. As a red voter, I dont need or want to convince anyone of anything. I respect peoples autonomy.
Blue voters are the ones needing to do all the convincing.
English

The people who choose red are the same people who abandon their carts in the parking lot.

@TheOmniLiberal Destiny have you seen the blue/red button dilemma? What’s your take
English

@RichardHanania Not true, only because you are never going to get 100% of people to press red. Some will always see it the other way, so there is always risk some will die if too many press red.
English

But everyone also survives if we all push red. Everyone acting in their own selfish interests actually gets you the optimal outcome.
David Shor@davidshor
We asked this to a large sample of nationally representative Americans - blue wins by a 3:1 margin!
English

@DaddyWarpig Not everybody is going to press red, ever. Some are going to die unless at least 50% vote blue.
You can prevent death of another irl with an act of heroism. How is it different in this hypothetical scenario?
English

If everybody presses the Red, everybody survives.
If more than 50% press the Blue, everybody survives.
No matter what, it's better to press the Red. YOU ARE ONLY MORALLY CULPABLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS.(Not quite, but in this specific case, yes.)
The deaths are the responsibility of the person doing the killing.
vittorio@IterIntellectus
why would anyone even press blue?!?
English

If you press blue, the worst case is you die.
If you press red, the worst case is you took part in an action that killed just under half of humanity.
Clicking blue minimizes the worst-case moral injury.
It says you’d rather die than risk contributing to the death of another.
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy
Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?
English

@StefanBr93 @waitbutwhy I’d sure go into a burning building to save another person
English

@DerrickEnders @waitbutwhy Would you really vote blue if your life is on the line rather than a twitter poll though
English

@naturalcentrist @waitbutwhy Good point.
But as a general argument “red is the only right answer” sounds a bit like “people shouldn’t go into a burning building risking their own life to save a child”.
English

@DerrickEnders @waitbutwhy Also depends on how much communication is involved. It's not suggested that there's time to convince others in any direction.

English

@DerrickEnders @waitbutwhy I’d (not) like to see how red button pushers deal with the mess of 49% of world population dead overnight. Good luck rebuilding civilization from that and “everyone for himself” values.
English

@Marco_Barlaam @waitbutwhy I’m not saying blue is the only right answer. Just less than 50% of people can vote red, no problem.
But convincing others to vote red and thus kick it over the 50% mark would be a bit inconsiderate.
English

@DerrickEnders @waitbutwhy The “blue is the only right answer crew” are strong in virtue signaling.
They can keep pretending that they would vote blue in real life to score altruism points while secretly voting red for obvious self-preservation reasons.
