After more than 30 years of fire service and 16 years leading the Des Moines Fire Department, Chief John TeKippe is retiring this upcoming December.
Chief will end his career as the fourth-longest serving Fire Chief in Des Moines history.

Curbside collection of storm debris began today and will continue with daily passes until Wednesday, August 6—any debris placed after that will not qualify for free curbside collection.

Following last night's storms, curbside collection will be offered to the impacted areas near the Fairgrounds. For those outside this area, the City Compost Center at 1601 Harriet Street will open Saturday (8/2) from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for vegetative storm debris drop-off. (1/2)
