After 4 years of work, solo dev Cakez breaks down in tears after opening Steam and learning his game Tangy TD made $250,000 in a week: "I feel like I really don't deserve this."

@AeresChronicles For me, I think RPGs are at their best when they maximize player agency and consequences. I like to stay away from railroading and carrot-and-stick GMing styles.

I just backed D.O.R.F. - Oldschool real-time strategy and base-builder on @Kickstarter kickstarter.com/projects/dorf/…

@Lugger_Art Depends on the artistic eye of your client.
I'm regularly telling my team to spend less time on their thumbnails (and give them this example of being too much detail) to give more time to the final image. But average people are going to appreciate your standard.

@SamSantala I've been hoping more of this would happen. Grab some great talent and then go make some stuff. Though its going to be hard when you need hire, and when you end up doing more management jobs than the stuff you like.
Hit me up if you're looking to make an RPG of some kind.

@Gingerblast I have no problem with this. If smart PCs can bypass monster with clever tactics then just let them have the win. BUT.... this does prompt a worldbuilding question, how do Basilisks avoid killing themselves when they drink from a still river?

@Clint_Davey1 I hope so, but its still a LOT of work to put yourself out there and find those who are looking for what you make :)

If you are designing a game, or writing a Substack, or making a podcast, or some other creative endeavour - you are competing against a non-stop barrage of short-form slop beamed into people's eyeballs round the clock.
The good news is - people are rapidly getting sick of the slop and are still seeking out quality, detailed, rich "content" that they can spend hours on and really get into.
You're not competing against the slop. You're making something totally different. Just do it well and people will find it.

@PlatinumWoW654 A bit anecdotal, but I feel like Sci-Fi > Fantasy in the world of miniature games. Not in terms of interest, but in terms of people willing to spend $$. Those into fantasy spend less and more are locked into older/existing games in a way that sci-fi gamers are not.

@ill_Scholar 100%
I've done some Larping, and it feels so healthy and friendly. Lots of running around outdoors, indoor crafting, and lots of socializing.
