@devinmorrison11 @kerissakti Pricing competition could have also been an avenue for another store to take, but Valve actively prevented that, not just for Steam keys, but also against PC stores not even selling Steam keys. Emails from Valve, found in lawsuit discovery, showed Valve did this.

@DescentOverload @kerissakti You are right they could, but they don't have to cause all the competition is useless. People are mad at steam for having a monopoly yet all the "competition" refuses to compete on the same level, then cry when they aren't seeing sales numbers like steam.

Lol 😂 As indie, I gladly give Valve 30% cut. They’re supporting open source: Linux, Proton, Fex-Emu, etc. Valve is keeping tech free and markets accessible for all. They’re prob the only one that still care abt gaming, the gamers & devs. not greed. It’s long term thinking
Seth Dirks@SirDustyDirks

Valve: 350 employees Epic Games: 4,000 employees Valve: $17B annual revenue
Epic Games: $5-6B Valve charges devs 30% of their revenue for simply listing their game. Epic Games charges devs 0% revenue share on the first $1,000,000 Valve is one of the greediest companies in gaming. You cannot be pro valve and be pro developer at the same time.

@DescentOverload @lyreen0 @Blarggggg2 That survey was from 2019 when Epic Game Store tried to enter the market. At that time, I too thought that Steam’s 30% was too high compared to EGS’ 12%. But then Valve added tons of stuff to Steam, such as Next Fest, Proton, Remote Play, Dev Page, Events, Labs, etc

@DescentOverload @Blarggggg2 @kerissakti So yes, they do exclusive launches. Prices used to be higher on Epic Store for me, but I can see most of them are the same now, haven't checked for a long time. Still higher on some. Point me to where the devs say Steam are ripping them off?

@lyreen0 @Blarggggg2 @kerissakti 60% profit margin is nearly unheard of in business, 30% profit margin is considered doing exceptionally well. At 60% it means you are ripping someone off. Epic doesn't do exclusive launches accept for their own published games. Epic Store doesn't cost customers more.

@DescentOverload @Blarggggg2 @kerissakti Okay, I'm dumb. Now explain why their 60% profit margin is apparently problematic and a core discussion in how Valve is such an evil monopoly where Epic keeps doing exclusive launches, design terrible launchers, has no community, and cost customers more?

@lyreen0 @Blarggggg2 @kerissakti I said profit margin, they have a 60% profit margin on the 20-30% revenue share they take. Most of their revenue comes from games that reach 20% revenue share, which means they essentially have pretty close to 60% profit margin on the 20% they take.

@AntiWokeMemes Trans have the same rights as anyone else of the same sex. They are biological male then they have no right to be in female private spaces. Biological males have no right to be in female sports. and this is true for vice versa. Sex change surgery is an elective surgery.

That's not greed. That is a buisness model that the public accepted and voted on with their wallet. It wasn't always good, it sucked for a long time. They spent time and money on it. PC gamers aren't into "exclusives". Epic went all in on it for years. 🤷‍♂️

@DSvenosd @Blarggggg2 @kerissakti you know what people can do? Stop defending Valve every time someone wants to call out that 30% is taking too much, or giving excuses of why its good that valve prevented pricing competiton between Steam and other PC stores that were not even selling Steam keys,

@Blarggggg2 @kerissakti Nobody is saying for Valve to not take a cut, but rather they don't need to be taking so much of a cut to the point that its a 60% profit margin for Valve. But Valve fanboys don't see that, because none of them care about the artists making the games, they only care about a store

@DescentOverload @kerissakti Yes, Valve deserves its cut. Any indie dev with a mind for business will say the same and the ones that dont are free to try their hand at Epic or GoG. Epic has had like 7 years to get its store to the same level as Steam and it only only got preloading and gifting last year.

@AndrewHulshult Valve launching 4 pieces of hardware and making a huge leap forward over WINE with Proton all while keeping the launcher completely stable with 350 employees while Epic has thousands and all they have to show for it is Fortnite and EGS makes me question where's the money going?
