Carrying on with my #walkeverystreetinShrewsbury quest, I went out this morning and completed another 30 streets. So as things stand at the moment: Streets walked = 1,169 streets Steps taken = 535,599 steps Total distance covered so far = 417.96km or 259.17 miles Unfortunately it’s brought back my bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome with a vengeance somehow. Oh well, I’ll just have to get on with it 🙄

Whatever It Takes by Joy Wood, released in July 2024, is a riveting mystery thriller that has captivated readers and critics alike, earning the prestigious RNA (Romantic Novelists’ Association) Award in the Romantic Thriller category. Set in a tranquil Nottingham cul-de-sac, the novel follows Lorna and Dan Lloyd, a couple living in their dream home. Lorna, a socialite craving excitement, feels unfulfilled, while Dan, a successful accountant and fitness enthusiast, remains devoted but unaware of her restlessness. Their lives take a dramatic turn when charismatic new neighbors, Perry and Ingrid Hunter, move in. The couple’s fast friendship—marked by intimate dinners, trips, and a fateful Greek holiday—leads to a fatal accident that binds the survivors to a dark secret. Someone is determined to keep it hidden, no matter the cost. Readers have raved about the novel’s suspense and unpredictable twists. A Goodreads reviewer shared, “I honestly couldn’t put it down & read it within a day. The twists & turns caught me out every time & just when I thought I’d cracked the plot, there was more drama to come.” Another called it “a well-put-together thriller with a glossy top layer and a darker core that continues to deliver shocks until the final pages,” giving it 5 stars. On Amazon, a fan wrote, “I cannot believe this is Joy’s 9th book, and each one is amazing in different ways. Whatever it Takes is the right title and keeps you gripped all the way through.” X posts from @Joywoodauthor in July 2025 celebrate the book’s RNA Award win and its “page-turning” appeal, noting its availability on Kindle Unlimited, which has boosted its popularity. After winning a romance story competition, she transitioned to writing full-time, producing acclaimed works like *Dead Pretty*, *Getting Away With Murder*, and *For the Love of Emily*. The RNA Award for *Whatever It Takes* underscores her skill in blending romance with high-stakes suspense. Reviewers praise her character-driven approach, with one noting, “This is most certainly a character driven story with great descriptive scenes written in the most absorbing, detailed way.” Subplots involving Dan’s brother Connor and his wife Ruth add richness to the narrative. Now based in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, where coastal tides inspire her work, Wood engages fans through her active X presence (@Joywoodauthor) and continues to deliver compelling stories. Whatever It Takes is a standout romantic thriller, its RNA Award win cementing its place as a must-read for fans of love, betrayal, and conspiracy. Joy Wood’s ability to keep readers guessing until the final page makes this novel a thrilling testament to her growing legacy in the genre.
