So this customer of mine stopped buying from me some time ago because, in her words, she found another poultry farm selling cheaper. It wasn’t easy, but I respected her decision and let her go. What even hurts a bit is that I’ve always tried to be considerate one promise I keep is not bringing my eggs to sell directly around my customers, just so they can trade peacefully and make their own sales. But yesterday, I showed up in that same market with over 200 crates to sell, and suddenly it became a problem… she was frowning and even went as far as complaining to my sister 😂 Honestly, that part surprised me. You chose another supplier, I respected it so why the discomfort now? At the end of the day, business is open to everyone. You’re no longer my customer, and I also have to survive. I have eggs to sell, and I will sell them where I can.

@FirstKingEntert Today I was speaking with an elderly man about how he built his house, we talked about the cost of building materials then and compared it to the current cost. All I can say is may God help our generation.

It will be hard to make it as a youth in Nigeria now if you don't know what you are doing or what you want in life. Even if you do, you have to be strategic and dynamic with your approaches. The system was rigged against us.

So this man walked into the shop this afternoon. The way he was moving from one counter to another, picking sachet seeds, you could tell he had already planned his farming life in his head. Me too, I was happy. I said, “Better customer don land.” He picked varieties of pepper, tomato and cucumber just selecting them with confidence. So I asked him, “Oga, what are you looking for?” He smiled. “I Wan to plant these seeds, Just small small things behind my house. Just something wey me and my family go dey eat.” I said, “Okay… but these seeds no be that kind seed wey you just throw for ground like that o.” He looked at me… not really getting it. I tried to break it down. “These ones na improved seeds. E get how you go take plant am. Some you go start for nursery, some need better soil preparation. No be like those local ones wey you fit just plant anyhow.” He nodded, but I could tell he wasn’t convinced. For his mind, seed na seed. We kept talking. Then he asked, “How much be all these ones?” I started calling the prices. “This one, 12,000… this one, 15,000…” I was already watching his face change small small. Then I mentioned one. “25,000.” Omo. The man no even allow me finish. “Ahhh! Wetin be this chairman ?!” he burst out. “For something wey I wan just plant for house? My budget no pass ₦5000 o!” I just looked at him. At that moment, everything I explained earlier started making sense to him but the hard way. He stood there for like two seconds, shook his head, then gently dropped the seeds. No argument. No extra talk. He just turned and walked out fast. Didn’t even look back. I took the seeds back, and just laughed small. But honestly, I felt for him… the same way I feel for myself and many farmers. Because truth be say, the cost of inputs now is a real problem. It’s discouraging people that genuinely want to farm. That man came prepared. But he left like someone that just escaped a mistake.

Are we not farming this season, farmers? Why is there such a low turnout in input purchases? Or have many of you shifted to local alternatives? It wasn't like this previous seasons o.

@distinktmultis Try start force on a small plot or area and see the effect. Spray responsibly and according to prescription on the label. Don't directly on the leaf.

No, the middle men still make more, a farmer will have to wait for harvest! Middle men remain active in a chain all day long because they have no waiting period, there is no way my pond can enable me make sales from Jan to December , middle men get produce from different farms hence staying active all year long

It’s true that many people struggle in agriculture because they don’t fully understand the system they’re operating in. Farming is just one component of Agriculture which also includes agribusiness, supply chains, soil science, finance, marketing, and technology.

One of the reasons people say farming is not profitable or that you cannot build wealth from it in Nigeria is because some farmers unintentionally reinforce that narrative. Profitability is not only about how hard you work on the farm, it is also about how well you manage yourself and the resources available to you. I know a young farmer around 30 to 33 years old in my host community. Very strong, energetic, and highly sought after, someone who could clear a hectare of land in just three days on his own. He owned his farm and still took on extra labor. No days off. If he wasn’t working for one farmer, he was working for another or on his own land. He earned well. But whenever you saw him, he looked worn, like a starved lion that refused to rest. At some point, he developed a serious leg condition from field exposure (commonly called Eni ule in Igbo language). Instead of seeking proper medical care early, he relied on local remedies and continued working as the condition worsened. Around that same time, he made good money from cassava sales. Rather than prioritizing treatment, he went and bought a motorcycle. Even with the injury, he kept working. He would tie pieces of cloth around the wound to keep flies away and continue riding and laboring, putting more strain on an already damaged leg. It got worse. Maggots started coming out of the wound. The infection worsened to the point where bone became visible. Eventually, one morning he collapsed. What could have been treated early became critical. He was rushed to the hospital and later taken back home (he is from Akwa Ibom). Till today, no one can clearly say where he is or what became of him. Even the motorcycle he bought, nobody knows who later took it. The truth is, farming has its own challenges just like every other business, but farmers also add to the problem. As I said earlier, it is not just about how you start, but what you do with what you have and how smartly you work. Your health Your safety Your food Your tools Your approach All these must align with someone running a business, not someone scavenging for survival. It is non negotiable. Neglecting these does not just harm you as a farmer, it discourages others from joining the system and reinforces the broader belief that agriculture does not pay. If agriculture must be respected and truly profitable, farmers must operate with discipline, technology, and awareness. And like I always say, farming is constant, so there is no need to rush profit. Take your time to study the system and align where it fits you properly. Happy Sunday people of God.

I am the Someone 🫣 Again, if you want to be successful and earn a decent living wage - DONT PRACTICE AGRICULTURE as a young person in Nigeria 🇳🇬 The only reason you should go into Agriculture is if you are a NEPO baby with access to Finance. If you are in your 20s go and earn a descent living first. If you start agriculture with the 500,000 you saved during your NYSC, the following will likely happen to you; 1. YOU WILL LOSE THE MONEY 2. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR HEALTH- from exposure to chemicals, animal waste, Environmental factors etc 3. SECURITY- they will kidnap you in the bush and if they don’t kidnap you, you will be clashing with different people including security checkpoints 4. POOR SOCIAL LIFE-You won’t make any Friends, after all you are in the bush. Let me stop here for now
Esh@esh_presh

Someone came on x and typed "Agriculture is not a career path to take if you want to be successful". Agriculture feeds nations, creates billion dollar industries, & builds generational wealth. The problem isn't farming,it's thinking small. When you think small, you'll be small.
