Patch 26.8 Preview
We have a small patch as we aren't looking to change a bunch of things with 26.9 (Season 2) coming out soon.
26.9 has quite a few systems changes in it and so we expect those to have rippling effects on what champions are strong and weak.
There are also a few champions that have been having larger scope changes to them that we're looking to release on 26.9 as well, but weren't quite ready for prime time on 26.8
Fantasy Facing Changes
- A lot of the direction of our changes in the near future are aimed at emphasizing the unique strengths/strategic differentiators of champions, even if it will cost some aspect of the champion being flat in winrate across skill levels
- In many ways, a champion that has lost resonance with a core portion of their user base, even if they can sit at a higher power level may represent a downgrade in experience for players of that champion
- Expect the buffs this patch to translate more of the power budget into the area of the champions that are unique to them and we want to be moving the power of the roster like this over time
Yuumi Bugs
- We recently discovered a Yuumi bug where her ultimate was healing her attached ally each time it heals another ally
- While the number of times you're hitting multiple people with ult are rare, it is a significant nerf to the healing in the best case
- We're fixing this bug and compensating the ultimate (and other sources of healing)
Mel
- Mel's buffs in 26.5 ended up being a bit over magnitude, so we're pulling some of that back
- While we think after these changes Mel will be in a balanced state, that is different to whether she is in a state that is sometimes too frustrating for players
- We're continuing to evaluate whether making further changes to her is going to be able to adequately resolve "play against" while also remaining resonant and accessible for her Arcane audience
- We've been testing a few things, but nothing to share just yet
Dr Mundo
- Mundo consistently rates at the top of our frustration surveys and he's been overperforming especially in average play jungle
- We're tapping down some of that late game damage so that when he's popping off, he can still go where he pleases, but he's going to solo killing champions a bit less while doing so
More on the other champs later when the changes are more locked in

Patch 26.4 Preview!
Overall
- Things are looking pretty stable; we're seeing some pretty marked game time reductions (probably from) the turret plate bulwarking reductions
- We're still waiting to see the impact of the faelights and early vision changes on Jungle, but need a full patch to draw some conclusions there (and on the early bounty changes)
- After this patch, things are likely to be in a pretty good spot overall, would love to hear from y'all what other things need changing
- We've gotten a few initial surveys back from players and Top and Bot have been reporting higher satisfaction and power, while JG, Mid, Supp have been either neutral or lower sentiment.
- This was pretty much our goal, but there's still some fine tuning to do, expect some of that in some of the coming patches
Systems
- Hexoptics hasn't really managed to pick up much of an audience, so we're making some adjustments to make its damage amp passive more accessible to more champions along with some other tuning adjustments
Champion Changes
- First Stand is coming up on 26.5; we're making a lot of changes for both general balance and hitting a few of the other outliers/forgotten champions
- There isn't really a major theme here, other than trying to adjust some of the outliers that especially have benefited overly from some of the systems changes (items or otherwise)
- Some of our unconventional junglers are also a bit worse for wear, so we're giving them a bit of a bump up
- Mel and Zed are in a decent spot after the hotfix buffs, so we're letting them sit for a bit to stabilize
Challenger+ Ranked
- We made some adjustments this patch to increase queue times in Challenger to get better match quality
- We're going to walk this back a bit as even though match quality has factually improved a bit, players are still feeling like those matches aren't higher quality, while having longer queue times
- Going to walk it back about halfway as a result

14.21 Full Preview!
Swain
- Swain has been in a state for a while where his most popular role is support; has been most popular in support, while being his weakest role
- His farming roles have pretty consistently been more powerful, but unsatisfying and as a result unpopular
- The changes aim to make his farming roles (especially in solo lanes) more satisfying, powerful and reliable.
Galio
- Galio's builds are a bit too non-AP skewed currently pushing him into more of a pure tank than we'd like
- We'd like to make ROA a bit more of an attractive item compared to other options and taking his mana costs down a bit
Volibear
- Volibear's ROA/Riftmaker + Navori builds have been pretty strong
- We think it's a cool build, don't need to adjust it fundamentally, but it's just a little strong overall, so we're tapping it down a bit
AP Champs
- This patch, we're nerfing Sorcs a little bit as they're a tad strong relative to other boot options for AP champs
- We're nerfing a bunch of champs, especially ones that aren't as reliant on sorcs (though some of them we're nerfing them a little bit and doing the rest of the nerf from sorcs)
- Gwen's builds have skewed too heavily flat AP recently which has turned her more into a burst champion which is pretty expectation breaking for counterplay and understanding of what she's capable of
- Hwei has been a tad strong for a while in both mid and bot. We're increasing some of the windows for engaging and capitalizing on a mispositioned Hwei by bumping his E cooldown and a small nerf to his damage output
Non-Item Scalers
- Karthus/Kassadin/Brand/ASol/Taric/Nasus/Senna/Camille, etc. are champs who benefitted a bunch from items becoming weaker as their inherent kit scalings have become relatively stronger and they've risen above the pack
- We're targeting some nerfs at these champions to bring them down some amount as a result
- In a few instances, we wanted to make some of the champions a bit easier to punish, because there's less damage in the game in general which is meaning they get to scale a bit for free (ASol, Camille, Taric) in particular
Buffs
- Azir, Corki have been champs that have been historically a bit pro skewed
- We're adding some power back to these champions in attemped less pro skewed ways; to tide them over for a bit, but still looking to do some larger changes to Corki
- Irelia: This set of changes is attempting to make Irelia a bit more spell focused (Q) and less auto attack focused while being more early game skewed
- Other champs in this list are just generally a bit underpowered and receiving simple buffs; not too much to write home here

Patch Preview 14.21!
Bounties
- Some significant bounty changes coming this patch that have been cooking for a while; some of the reasoning here is to make bounties feel more intuitive to players across both champion and objective bounties
- Would recommend checking out Phreak's patch preview for the nitty gritty details
- The high level is:
* Bounties will be more tightly correlated with gold in and gold out
* When players are negative in bounties, getting gold will bring them back to 0 progressively, rather than a 0-7 player getting 2 kills and then having a 150g bounty, 2 kills may or may not be enough to get someone back to being worth 300g
* Killing players repeatedly will both acquire less bounty, but also give less gold
* Objective bounties will be a bit more based on Gold rather than XP to better match player sensibilities, even if it's less accurate (more aligned with what players associate with leads, especially in Pro Play)
Systems Changes
- Lethal Tempo is a tad weaker than alternatives for the melee carries, so we're giving it a bump after Grasp was nerfed out for them
- This is also to keep the power level roughly the same for them with the BORK nerf
- We acknowledge the concerns around buffing Yone/Yasuo last patch while they're dominant at worlds; the reasoning for that was because 14.19 changes were a nerf to them and we were restoring a bit of power while skewing them a little towards crit as their items were too skewed towards non-crit
- AP is still a little too strong and crowding out Lucidity in particular; bringing down Sorcs as a result, because we think Lucidity is in a reasonable spot and don't want to buff it
Champions
- Will talk more about champions tomorrow
- A bunch of the changes this patch are for champions that we had to cut last patch

Patch 14.20 Preview!
Game Monitoring:
- This patch we've seen a pretty good reduction in the amount of snowballing while keeping game times ~constant.
- Additionally, we're noticing that champions are dying on average 3-5% slower than on the previous patch, which is helping skill expression shine a bit more
- We're still waiting a little longer to see which roles have come out on top power wise, but AP has been floating up closer to the top
Systems:
- Our general strategy here as with previously is to get systems into the right spot first and then follow up with champions changes
- Lethal Tempo seems to have found a pretty decent spot overall, not overpowering other options in a large way, some champs are flexing around on Grasp, PTA, Fleet, etc. Still some optimization to do here
- AP has initially proven out to be quite strong with Stormsurge and Pen builds rising to the top again. We're not looking to give it a large nerf like last time, but a small tap down seems warranted. We're also going to continue to investigate some of the proc damage values with some being a little on the high end
- Additionally, Liandrys has been pretty strong for Junglers, but seems to be in a reasonable spot for other roles. Part of this is because combat is a bit slower and so the burn is relatively more powerful both against camps and champions
- Finally, ADC first item space needs work. Despite being a more powerful option in many cases, IE first has proven to be pretty unexciting and not really an item that players are excited to buy.
- We're making some changes to the first item space to make Yun Tal, Shiv and Collector more appropriate relative to each other. We know that the space needs a lot more work to make Crit vs Non-Crit builds more satisfying and clear reasons to be picked
- Grasp has landed in an interesting spot; with it showing up on a lot more champs than Tanks (especially some of the squishier fighters).
- While this is sometimes OK, it's meant to be more of a niche option and pretty expectation breaking to see some of the light fighters or ADC's with really high HP values
- We're doing some specific champ follow up on some of the fighter oriented Eclipse users, or Crit users (Yone, Yasuo) that don't have good alternatives. As mentioned earlier, we're looking to mostly tune around these item values for now
