Steve - Vote YES: Wayne County Transit - Aug 4th
Did you know: Wayne County has a population of over 1,769,000 & covers 672 square miles! Over 12% of households in Wayne County do not own a private vehicle! And many residents are unable to drive. Wayne County needs county-wide public transit! Vote Yes -- Aug 4th!

We're calling on @MIHouseDems @MI_Republicans to prevent transit cuts in FY27 with over 30 allies across Michigan. Tell your legislators - we don't need transit cuts amidst such high gas prices. secure.everyaction.com/yDinc9Vv1kiD2q…

@GabGet0n We agree with you that walkers and bicyclists are limited. That's why we need to invest in sidewalks and buses. Some people can't bike, and some need to travel far. Others need to just walk in their neighborhood or town. We're fighting for cyclists, pedestrians, and transit rider

@DetroitTransit This is far more affordable. Better for mental health. Better for physical health. Walkers and bicyclists of all ages are limited by not having connected sidewalks. I see seniors out walking in their neighborhood in February.

A small group of Northville-based anti-tax activists are suing to block a Wayne Countywide vote for public transit. It's odd to fight transit now - with soaring gas prices and more people in need of affordable mobility - but as always, some people are less affected than others.

@numberfriends It's likely soaring gas prices will last a long time. And beyond gas prices, insurance rates and the cost to buy a car are also higher. We should support affordable transportation options, so we can have them whenever we need them

@DetroitTransit Soaring gas prices are a temporary blip, not a strong argument there.

@GabGet0n Pedestrian infrastructure is important, but it's impossible to walk from Detroit to Canton. The bus can get you from end to end if you don't drive. We need to invest in all transportation options.

The RTA & Qline will have a National Train Day event May 9th at the Qline Operations Center in New Center. There will be model railroads, historic train cars, and a chance to meet train operators! We hope to see you there.

Channel 4 interviewed DDOT and SMART riders about switching to transit as gas prices rise. "Usually, you get your own seat," says a rider of SMART's 805 express service to downtown Detroit. "But there's not any extra seats anymore." clickondetroit.com/news/local/202…

On 4/28, we're having a Transit Tuesday Talk on federal transit policy! This year, Congress must "re-authorize" our transportation funding, writing the rules on how we fund public transit and rail. We're hoping for some reform! Register at detroittransit.org/april-2026-ttt/

@DE_Gifford @NotSmartWayne Detroit will be subject to the millage, but money raised in Detroit will be used for better DDOT service. Also, Nankin Transit and Livonia's dial-a-ride system will also receive funding. These services operate for seniors, but with the millage would likely open to all residents.

@DE_Gifford @NotSmartWayne A bit late to the party, but exactly this. Per SMART's publicly released plan, new municipalities would pay $23M a year for all of this stuff. Current towns with SMART buses would pay $0 in new taxes.

Not sure where they are getting this $500M number. The combined annual budgets of SMART, DDOT, TheRide, People Mover & QLINE combined are less than $500M a year. The 2016 RTA proposal would have only raised an additional $200M a year. @DetroitTransit
