Why do we use annotations in AWS ALB Ingress manifests? Because the standard Kubernetes Ingress spec is very limited. AWS ALB Controller uses annotations (alb.ingress.kubernetes.io*) to configure advanced features like: • internet-facing / internal scheme • target-type: ip (for EKS) • SSL certs, WAF, health checks • Ingress groups (share 1 ALB → save $$$) • idle timeout, security groups, etc. Annotations = the flexible way to extend Ingress without bloating the core API. Super common pattern in Kubernetes! 💡
